Thanks for the Tikhonov correction. I should have looked up the birthdates because it's a recent trend for Russians not to be drafted in their draft years. Teams are waiting an extra year or two before drafting Russians because they don't see them play as much. It's all the more reason to pay attention to teams like Montreal that have had some success drafting Russians. Montreal has more experience in Russia and their advantage can be exploited by poolies.
Something I didnt mention in my article is the inherent bias against Russians (and Europeans) that I have noticed in my own fantasy league. In most cases I can get European players cheaper. In some cases the reasoning was specious. I couldn't GIVE Dominik Hasek away even when he was playing well. One person said he simply didn't like Hasek. When you're a poolie it's important to be wary of your own biases. - Stuart McDonald

I agree with Larry, it would be fantastic to see if the stigma surrounding Russians drafted in the 1st round (or top 10) is reality or perception. - Paul Swinwood

Tikhonov is actually a year older than Turris. Tikhonov was born May 88, Turris in Aug.89 (according to TSN).
Russia has had its fair share of 'busts' in the early rounds the past decade, it would be interesting to see the %'s of hit/misses when divided by country of birth/where they played junior hockey. - Larry
