I can't believe how weak the Ducks suddenly are on D. Even with Boynton there, losing both Pronger and Beauchemin hurts A LOT. - Eric Daoust

They'd sure look a lot better had they figured out how to retain Beauchemin. - Jocular Hockey Manager

The Ducks seem to be getting better with every move they make this off-season. How do you guys see the value of Hiller/Giguere? Are they doomed to split starts this year? If one of them gets traded the other will be a top5 goalie. - Jerry

Not sure I agree re: Ebbett. While he put up good numbers in the regular season, he looked lost a lot during the playoff, suggesting that he still has big-league experience to gain to round up his game. Now they can use him on a third line with Miller and Christensen, giving him the opportunity to get the experience he needs while having less responsibilities, and filling in when Koivu is injured. He should still be in line to inherit the second line spot from Koivu next year. It took Andy McDonald several seasons after his promotion to bust out, and he was the magic 28 at the time. - fzusher

The only upside to this situation for Ebbett is that Koivu is injury-prone and he'll likely have time to fill in as the #2 center. And Koivu is signed for one year, so it's possible that this is a full season for Ebbett with low expectations (no pressure) with the opportunity to step into the top 6 beyond this season. - Eric Daoust
