I agree the upgrade on Toronto's blueline is huge. The players brought in aren't going to help much offensively, but they sure will defensively. They have the potential to be a really good low goals against team. Wont win a ton til they get some forwards, but Gustavsson should put up sick stats from the jump. - Theguywhoisgoingtostealyourgoalie3rdpick

Bachman??? Isn't this article about the Leafs? Am I two days late? Even if everyone has Kaberle good as gone and everyone screaming for a top 6 forward in return, I really do hope Burke keeps him. - phoenixzen

I understood what Dobber wrote- still dont think the Leafs will be near the top 7 defensively, more like 10-15th. The only way they get top 7 is if Kaberle stays and the find a sucker to take Finger or VanRyn, and Gustavsson plays like Steve Mason did last year.
btw- Is Toskala going to be 100% to start the season? he had some kind of surgery at seasons end. - Larry

Personally, I kinda like his big shut down guys he's added. Kom, Beach to go along with Schenn. However does he not realize he needs quality pt men too. Why trade Kaby and that modest salary? The next off guy other than White is Stralman, who he does not prefer. Time to get some scorers Burke, but he did say he was going to build from the net out. Sometimes I hate him (Heatley comment) and sometimes he's a genius. Anything seems better than what TO was doing!!! - bluejays

Sorry, that Defence is top 7 in toughness (White not included ;).
Komisarek struggled without Markov (big time). He almost always dumps the puck out (basically turning it over in a center ice), and rarely makes a good offensive pass. It is good, safe hockey, but it puts a LOT of pressure on the forwards.
Ergo: Today's defence has got to be a 5 man unit. True the Leafs defence is solid, 2 Ds can't stop waves of offence all night. Their forwards are not good enough defensively OR offensively (to keep the puck 180' front their own net) to get Leafs in the top 7 GAA in the league. - Mabby

I think the monster should play 30-40 games even with toskala there for a full season to see if he is the real deal. if he is the real deal and depending on the market for goalies at the trade deadline if leafs are out of it toskala perhaps gets moved, then the monster may start even more games. i dont think pushing 20 wins is out of the question. - Falcon Eddie

Kaberle is definitely moved, I would bet big money on it. Hopefully by the start of the season. Stralman - he's getting screwed, but I hear Burke is not a big fan. Hopefully, he gets traded because he has a lot of potential.

So Stralman is not on the team? F**K!!!
Even if Kaberle gets moved looks like White is ahead of him.
What the hell to do with Stralman? - Terry Crisp

You didn't have Kaberle in your top 6 for them either. Was that a mistake or do you think he'll almost definitely get moved? - Raja

Not Top 7, gentlemen. Top 7 in GOALS ALLOWED. A Top 7 DEFENSIVE TEAM. Read what I'm saying man! haha. They can be Top 7 in GA and Bottom 7 in GF and wind up missing the playoffs. Right?

Also, just noticed the comment on the total wins - remember, I also said that Toskala could be traded. With that in mind, some of his wins come on a new team so there is no sense doing the math to come up with a prediction for the Leafs. That won't work LOL. - Dobber

If you want to see some of my thoughts on some similar questions posted here, go to the forums and click on School of Block. Dobber's predictions for both goalies' stats are not that long of a stretch. One thing to keep in mind is who is capable of playing with more CONFIDENCE. Don't focus so much on previous stats or their talent level. - Justin Goldman
