Habs Fan,
Well, it all depends on your salary cap situation, how the rest of your D squad looks like, the money you have left and what would be the best investment considering the strong and weak points of your team. If the cap is not a problem, the answer is easy : TIMMONEN, KIMMO OR KIMMO TIMMONEN. Pick one of those three. Leopold has potential, but he\'s a band-aid boy and I can\'t see him getting rid of that status (just my feeling...). With Timmonen, you get a proven producer, who doesn\'t miss that many games, and who will probably sign with a team where he\'ll be again a PP quarteback. So again, if money is not a problem, go with Kimmo. |

I first I thought “Hopefully his agent can\'t fool a GM into signing that kind of contract” but I suppose that NHL GMs have to overpay for top d-men. Out of curiosity I looked it up. Here are some of the big names (and big contracts) I can think of that signed contracts after the lockout. I don’t know that Timonen is quite on par with all of them but he is better then at least a few of these guys. The numbers are ‘cap-hits’ from nhlnumbers.com (don’t quote me on the fact that all these contracts are signed post lockout because I am not 100% sure on all of them.)
Lidstrom – 7.6 million Chara – 7.5 million Niedermayer – 6.75 million Redden – 6.5 million Jovanovski – 6.5 million Pronger – 6.25 million Blake – 6 million McCabe – 5.75 million Kubina – 5 million Gonchar – 5 million Foote – 4.6 million Kaberle – 4.25 million Rafalski – 4.2 million Aucoin – 4.0 millions Looking at that Timonen should fire his agent if he gets less then 4.5 million.
