I'm interested in acquiring David Backes. Keeper League information in sig. It's a salary league, so my question is, at 4,500,000, is Backes worth it? I'd be offering Staal or maybe just Kunitz and Staal. I'm not sure if he'll take it.

I'm not planning on keeping Kunitz and Staal for next year. I have no chance of winning this year.

What do you think? Do I go after him or do I wait until draft time and hope I can get another big hitter and PIM guy?

I am not sure why you would want to move Staal at his age in a keeper league he is a great player and right now becuase of his injuries and year his value is not where it should be. IMO I would keep Staal over Backes I like Backes but I think that Staal is going to be the better player.

LOTS OF TEAMS!

The problem with Staal is that he plays on a team with a lot of talent. He will never reach his full potential with Malkin and Crosby on the same team. Also, in terms of bang for buck, I'm thinking Backes might bring me a little more. Staal is worth 4,000,000. Last year, his stats were 21G, 28A, +19, 57PIM and 127HITS. Backes will be worth 4,500,000. His stats were 17G, 31A, -4, 106PIM and 266HITS. With those stats, that's why I figure I get a little more bang for buck from Backes.

Yes, it does help Staal's value this year. As it does Kunitz's. I'm not in a position to win. I will not fight for first. I'm working on next year's team. Not sure if this changes anyone's opinion.

I just think the value Backes has is more contributed to his "real hockey" value... Not as much his fantasy value.

I guess I just dont think that at 4.5mill per year... Backes has the fantasy stats that make that seem like a good contract... Whereas Jordan Staal is FULL of potential, has the better upside, is cheaper, younger... If I had Backes I would trade him for Staal in a heartbeat.
