Hi Guys,
Grabner has been dropped in my 14 team league, and while I dont really see a need to pick him up for this season that is ending in the lottery for me, I'm wondering if he's a great chance to upgrade one of my keepers. He'd be the 3rd islander keeper (streit will be dropped at the end of the season) on my team, but that's not a huge deal since i'm kinda hoping that they can utlilize some of that youthful talent sooner or later (it can happen right?) and it'd be great to "get in on the bottom floor" so to speak with 3 of their up and coming stars. We keep 7 fwds and right now these are my front runners: John Tavares C Rick Nash LW,RW Ryan Clowe LW Claude Giroux RW Kyle Okposo RW Peter Mueller C, LW Steve Ott C and the maybes: Alex Steen C Rich Peverley C Do you guys see anyone on that list that Grabner has a better upside than? I know mueller and ott might be strange choices, but I really think Mueller has a solid contibuting spot on the avs and Ott helps fill out the PIM and HITS categories in my pool. Having said that if Grabner is a homerun I'd be willing to drop them if the case was strong enough for the kid. I really appreciate any insight into things you guys think I might have missed. Thanks Alot, Merk

No hesitation grabbing Grabner over Mueller. I would also consider keeping Steen over Ott but with Ott's contributions in other cats, you may be better off keeping him. I'm not familiar with the hits category so I don't know the overall effect it has on your standings.

Basically hits just makes guys like Ott a lil more valuable. (Maybe a lil more so last year when he chipped in with 20+ goals too)
Ultimately its not a hard stat to plug in if ur short on it, kinda like PIMs, but it makes some guys a lil more valuable if they can still get u multiple categories. You don't think Mueller has potential to come back? Has he had one concussion too many?

I just think Mueller is better off being someone else's problem. There is little chance he comes back and doesn't get hurt like that again. See Marc Savard.

I like Ott with your scoring cats. On pace for 30 pts and 180+ pims, but he adds a few ppp and shp here and there as well. Very similar option to Ott is Brandon Prust, if you'd prefer to use a wing spot over a center spot.
I'd easily drop Mueller to add Grabner though.

So the next question is since Mueller seems to be on his way out... Is Grabner the better option over Steen and/or Peverley?

Wow. Mueller's skating now ( http://www.examiner.com/colorado-ava...begins-skating ) and I think I'd keep him over Grabner. The guy had 20 points in 15 games with the Avs before getting his bell rung.
When do you need to decide? If you've got until the end of the season, I'd definitely wait and see if Mueller can get back on the ice -- his potential is a heck of a lot higher than Grabner's (who seems pretty replaceable IMO). Worst case scenario, you could try to deal him once he's skating again. Grabner might be producing a bit now, but add Nino, a healthy Okposo, and whomever they get this year in the draft, and you have to wonder how much value he's got going forward.

Problem with that line of thinking is someone else could grab Grabner (ugh!). I'd chose Grabner over Peverley easily (quality C are a dime-a-dozen). PIMs and hits are easy cats to fill, so the need to keep Ott is not as big. If Steen has multi-position eligibility, he'd be worth considering, otherwise, he's another run-of-the-mill lower tier offensive players (60-point pace)... and as much as I love Mueller (I have him in my Dynasty league), there's no guarantee that he's a point-per-game player when he comes back, or like Killer67 said, that he gets another concussion and his career might be done.
So you got options here, I say pick your poison. Get Grabner and drop one of these. |

I just don't see him being irreplaceable. Peverley/Steen/Grabner -- whatever. Unless you've got to decide on keepers at this moment, I'd wait and see if Mueller can regain some value for you. I don't think you're losing much with that approach.
