I dig Friedman.
Two of my favourites that he posted here: re: Norris The serious contenders: Francois Beauchemin, Drew Doughty, PK Subban, Ryan Suter. Who else picked Beauchemin among the best defenders this year and Norris-candidate worthy? Hmmm.... The biggest challenge for me is: can I vote for anyone other than Toews? After all, he's my Hart pick and his defensive play is a major reason for that. Bergeron, who is such a smart player, was on the ice for just 13 five-on-five goals this year. Toews' total was 18. (Courtesy: behindthenet.ca.) But when you look at the differential, Toews was plus-27. The only players with 40 games and a better spread were Chris Kunitz (plus-31) and Pascal Dupuis (plus-29). That sealed it. C'mon Elliott... what's all this talk about plus/minus and goals-against even-strength. Is that stuff really valuable? What a misleading stat? (Sarcasm). When Pengwin references +/- and even-strength goals against.... it gets argued. Of course, when Elliott Friedmann talks about it, I'm sure it's fine. Easier to argue with some forum member than to challenge Elliott Friedman.
