In a point based league, W=2p, SO=5p, I get to keep 1 goalie. Which one should I keep?
I am leaning towards Vokoun because he plays on a (much) better team, makes more SOs. However I am worried about Vokouns status as the #1 goalie in Nashville. Will he splitt with Mason? How will Phillies do? Biron should be a solid #1 next year and for the coming years probably, but will he win enough games next year? Raycoroft plays the majority of games in Leafs, but very few SO. I am not looking much further than next year, actually, since we only get to keep 4 players, I am counting on picking up a goalie or 2 in the draft. Biron and Raycroft will most likely also be easier to re-draft than Vokoun.

Hello P:
Vokoun: (31 years) - 27 wins/44gp - 5 shutouts Biron: (29/30) - 18wins/35gp -3 shutouts Raycroft: (27 years) - 37 wins/72gp -2 shutouts Based on your points structure: Vokoun: 79 points Biron: 51 points Raycroft: 84 points I appreciate that Biron\'s position has changed and that he will have more value this year, being the starter in Philadelphia. His supporting cast is not known but it will be better than what Philadelphia had to offer last year. I would think that Biron would get in the area of 30 wins. Vokoun will continue to share the workload with Mason. I think that Mason\'s value in Nashville has gone up. Nashville will likely platoon both goalies in order to help Vokoun avoid serious injury. With Raycroft you know what his supporting cast will be, for the most part. The Toronto defence is not likely to change much because of the money that they have tied up with McCabe and Kaberle. I do think that Raycroft\'s play will also improve. At the end of the day, my choice would be to go with Raycroft. |

Close call. I say Vokoun over Raycroft.
Biron will have to share some time with Niittymaki in Philly. Niittymaki chose to play the entire year hurt, knowing that after the season, he\'d have surgery. They\'ll have to share (earn) their playing time in Philly. It smells to me like a platoon situation brewing there. Raycroft is the undisputed number one on a team that should do as well or even better than they did this past year (Sundin being out for an extended period hurt T.O.). If they acquire a decent back up, then Raycroft may play less games (72 games?!) meaning less wins for him. I even picked up Raycroft in one of my keeper leagues when some rube dropped him outright! Vokoun only played in 44 games and was only 5 pts behind Raycroft who played in 72 games! I\'d be very surprised if Vokoun played less than 65 games next year. Mason did well when Vokoun went down, but Vokoun is the real deal. There is no goaltending controversy in Nashville. Keep Vokoun. Vokoun.

If each team only gets to keep 4 players, the only goalies I would keep would be Brodeur and Luongo. You must have a better forward to keep rather than a bunch of guys that are question marks. Although I\'m a big Leaf Fan, Raycroft and the Leafs won\'t do much better this year than last, Biron will be better but not that good and although Vokoun is the best of the three, I think he gets hurt too much and with Mason waiting in the wings, I\'d much rather keep a forward than take a chance on a goalie. If you are thinking about keeping one of these goalies, you can bet that another GM is too. I\'d offer to trade one or all of them to upgrade your draft position and possibly your last keeper.

Thanks for all the input guys.
I have really locked my mind on keeping a goalie. last year I started out with Denis, Theodore, Raycroft and trusted the 2 former far too long. Lets say I did not win last year...Thats the reason I early decided to keep atleast 1 trusted starter. Did a poor job trading for one...The only one I could get who would be hard to redraft was basically Vokoun. Pietro, Legace, Ward, et.al I am counting on being able to draft if I want to. I kind of like the idea of keeping another FW instead, I have a few to choose from: Kariya, Elias, Stastny, Frolov. Adding new thread about this...Whom to keept? This is an easy one, you have to keep Stastny or Frolov over one of those goalies. I\'ve read the other thread and know you are up against position restraints but either one is miles ahead of Vokoun especially if you think Ward, Di Pietro and Legace will be available in the draft. Dobber recently had a lot of good things to say about legace.
