I think its well worth dishing off a 2nd rounder. Certainly you can offer the 3rd without any real hesitation. If he takes that fine. If he doesn't I would offer the pick swap idea. If he doesn't like that I would cave and give him the 2nd.
Letang is going crazy. He could be just the push you need to get you to the trophy. Selling him for Karlsson is not selling your future. Its making your team better in my opinion. The 2nd rounder is the "getting better" tax and hopefully... the "winning the league" tax.

with Crosby, Ovechkin, Doughty already in tow in a keep 4 I rather see you keep Pavelec or Getzlaf over Letang or Bryzgalov

I'm leaning heavily towards Getzlaf as my 4th unless a good off season trade comes up. I've been burned by keeper goalies every time. I kept Bryz this season because he was part of an off season trade last summer.

ahh makes more sense then...if Pavelec keeps playing like Vezina material he's a keeper for you in my eyes..even if he busts his upside is so massive with what he's showcased that its definitely worth the gamble on him...Bryz isn't worth it tho in a keep 4 for over Getz in my eyes as you can always land a similar talent in net during next seasons draft

Pavelec as a keeper in a keep 4 format? No friggin way. Just my opinion, but I think that is crazy.

Based on his other netminder option in Bryz I think it's got a ton of upside should Pavelec continue to play like Vezina material through the rest of the year....he's already got Doughty Ovechkin and Crosby so his O and D are well off just based on that alone to where he can afford to go more risk/reward in Pavelec over Bryz, Getzlaf, or another defenseman in Letang like some other people are recommending

I almost kept Rask over the summer. Look at all the hype surrounding him. In a 4 man keeper that move would have killed me. Not to say Pavelec is in the same situation...going in I knew Thomas wasn't going away and that's why I walked on him. But we all thought Steve Mason was the next big thing a few years ago and look how that's gone. Pavelec still plays for a small market team and things can change in a hurry. Taking goalies based purely on hype is dangerous unless you can keep more players. I wouldn't drop a 90 point Getzlaf for him.
Edit: Unless I can get something for Getzlaf in the offseason.

Yea well I was never high on these guys like Steve Mason, Lecavalier, Rask etc.. where they burned people in the past badly and I am high on Getz minus his poor skating ability but if you can get a Stastny or someone of this calibur in the draft who will put up close numbers and roll dice on Pavelec being a legit top 5-7 netminder I think that's a smarter play in my eyes if Pavelec continues his strong play this year...Getz is obviously not a bad keep tho just less neccassary with Crosby and Ovechkin already in tow than what could very realistically end up being an elite netminder option in Pavelec...better potential risk/reward in my eyes when already stacked for life up front with Crosby and Ovechkin

I see your point...food for thought. Getz would also bring a much higher value in a trade as well.

I would rather roll the dice that Bryz will take the next step and be that top 5 goalie. Bryz has already shown he can log heavy minutes and play almost 70 games a season. Pavelec has already shown that he can become injured with a strong breeze. He has played 29 games this year and has looked quite good. He is still way riskier than Bryz. Bryz is a safer bet to be the better goalie next year.
Goaltender development is the most difficult to predict. It is most certainly not linear. Goalies go up and down as they develop and eventually become consistent. It takes experience to play games consistently and injury free. For me, Pavelec still has a lot of growing to do before he is worthy of a keep spot in a keep 4 format. Out of your current goalies, Pavelec would be my last choice to keep, but I think that I would keep one goalie. That goalie would prolly be Bryz.
