I offered another GM my Karlsson and a 4th round pick in 2011 for Letang. He's pretty much out of it and is looking for picks. He laughed and said he was already offered a 2nd rounder from two other GM's. I told him to jump on it if that's the case.

We only keep 4 players and Letang wouldn't be a keeper for me and to be honest I think most GM's would feel the same way. Is this guy asking too much or is he right on. I was thinking of upping it to a 3rd rounder/Karlsson, but I can't see going any higher. Thanks

I'm surprised that he has'nt been offered a 1st!
My friend , Letang has been emerging as the #1 D-Man in Pitts. for some time now and I'd say he's there!
Dobber has him rated as the #3 Def. to own in keeper leagues where playoffs are included.
I forgot how many teams were in your league , if there are many the he's a huge keeper , if there are few then he may not make the cut.

So I see 10 teams , that's 40 players protected , if you are looking for a stud Def. as a keeper then his value is high.

Letang is a definite keeper in any league. I'd have told you Karlsson and a 1st.

Yea only 2 or 3 dmen were kept last season..Green, Doughty and Lidstrom (I think). Most guys opt for a goalie and offense. I actually traded Semin over the summer to keep Doughty...the juries still out on that one. I think I made the right choice long term.

How about this...is Letang worth my Malkin? I have an owner ofering me this in a points only league were every G=A=1 pt, excep Dmen G=2pts.

We keep 8. Obvious answer right...no!

I'd go as high as a 2nd rounder, no problem. However, not a 1st...not if Karlsson is in the mix. Enstrom or Burns certainly, but i just think a 1st and Karlsson is too high.

EDIT: Missed the part about keeping only 4 players...damn. That in mind, w/your keepers being what they are, going as high as a 2nd is more of a gamble. Wouldn't rule it out per se, but definitely need more consideration. I think your D-men are pretty solid. Unless you think you really need Letang for a playoff push, I would not go higher than a 3rd + Karlsson.

I'm actually thinking of restructuring the deal to make it more appealing to him.

My Karlsson & 2nd(should be a bottom 3) (straight draft) for his Letang & 3rd (should be a top 4) so realistically my #18-20 for his #21-24.

Now of course the only given is that he'll be assured a top 4 pick, however I could have a horrible playoff and end up with pick #15. Still not the worst thing. It's all about winning now without selling the future.

Actually swapping picks isn't a bad idea. I often overlook that strategy, and it's usually a pretty effective tool in getting another GM to swing your way.

Man...sucks you can keep only four. I'm trying to figure a way to deal a player + pick so Letang can become a keeper for you, but it's just not working.
