haha I agree completely. If your appendix is gonna blow, there's nothing you can do to stop it, its inevitable, other then the off-season this is the best case scenario.
I had an appendectomy last summer and it is not nice...until the morphine kicks in. I was playing road hockey again in a couple weeks tho and after a month it was 100%, and im not exactly in great shape.
Other then complications, the biggest worry for an athlete is the conditioning getting poor, you can barely move without sharp pain for the first week.

Mike Modano came back from this same procedure in 3 weeks last year if i remember correctly.

I was going to post about this but they said it won't affect his timetable for return. Aka he won't be out any longer than he was already supposed to be.

There is actually a huge connection in the body between viscera (organs) and the groin, lower back, hip flexor etc... After this type of surgury it is a weakened area and a player is definitely susceptible to such an injury. Appendix is situated inner rim of the right hip, groin muscles attach just below.
