Default thinking of making a run at Ovie

roster is in my sig.

Bottom line is i'm in need of a good LW. I thought ovie would be a good choice as i might be able to get him low, although this guy has made very few moves all season, so i'm not sure if i'll be able to under pay at all

My team is currently in 6th, which is the highest my team has been. His team is in 7th, and I just took him over last week (and we're playing each other this week)

Here is his roster:
C:
N. Antropov
V. Filppula
J. Arnott
J. Spezza (IR)

LW:
A. Ovechkin
T. Vanek
Ray Whitney
B. Morrow
M. Raymond
A. Ponikarovsky (DTD)

RW:
D. Heatley (LW,RW)
T. Holmstrom
P. Kessel

D:
A. Edler
E. Jovanovski
C. Ehrhoff
B. Seabrook
S. Gonchar

G:
T. Thomas
N. Backstrom
A. Nittymaki

I think i'm going to have to include a big name for him to even consider this. I was thinking of Gaborik, as he's kinda become a bandaid, although he still has enough big name value be a start.

I was thinking of Gabby and Enstrom for Ovie and a 1st round pick (which is actually a 10th round pick)

What do you think?

I think its going to be tough for you here, because you don't really have an adequate LW replacement to give him for Ovechkin in the trade. Try Clowe and Gaborik for Ovie straight up.

I mean good luck if you can pull it off, but Ovechkin is a top 2 player in the game

He's right, its going to be tough but if you get Ovechkin I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Ya, I'd be insulted if you sent me that, especially asking for the 1st back. It might be enough to halt talks completely. I just got turned down with an offer of Staal, Ryan & Carlson so it takes a lot. OV owners don't see him as a sell low as far as I can tell.

10 teams, limited keeper? If I'm the guy with Ovechkin, I'm not even listening unless you upgrade my keepers somewhere. For instance - mention names like Lundqvist, Enstrom and Thornton, and we can start talking.

His keepers are relatively weak outside of Ovechkin and Heatley - you have a lot of solid options for keepers, maybe more than 9. You have the pieces to possibly land Ovechkin, just don't lowball right off the bat and force this guy to shut you out.

In addition to this, you are in a limited keeper league so you want the 9 best players that you can get. On top of it, and you touched on this, the headline player going to him is a bandaid boy? If he responds, its not going to be pretty.

Blow that up. Let's take a look at what his needs are.

His goal-tending absolutely sucks, he needs a LW and he could really use a C. OV is without a doubt the best LW in fantasy hockey and up until very recently, the unquestioned best player to own in a setup that has SOG. He has tailed off quite a bit this year from his career averages but he is still VERY VERY VERY valuable.

To start out with, you have a real strength in net. You are going to have to give one of those guys up. Probably Lundy or Quick. Personally, I would want to keep Quick but I like him more than Lundy personally. Better team around him.

Second, how do you shore up his wing situation? Well right now, your LW sucks. You could offer Clowe but Clowe, to me, is a compliment piece, not a top wing. You have to give him a top wing. Heater has LW/RW eligibility so if you give him a top RW, he moves Heatley to the LW and the problem is solved. Eriksson might not be a top RW but he is pretty darn good and having a fantastic season. You could TRY to put Gabby in as your secondary piece. That is not nearly as insulting as trying to build a deal around him but I would still balk at it if it came to me.

Lastly, you have to give up a center. I know you would like it to be Krejci but you have to give up something worth while and that means you are going to have to part with Thornton or Stastny. But at this stage, why not try Krejci? Worst case, he comes back and says you have not offered enough.

So the deal that I propose would be Lundy, Eriksson, Stastny for OV straight up.

For reference, I acquired OV this past offseason for my league below. I started by trading for Malkin. I sent Heatley, Stastny and Ryan Whitney for Malkin and Bogosian. I then turned around and traded Malkin and Doughty for OV straight up. In the end, I basically traded Heatley, Stastny, Ryan Whitney and Doughty for OV and Bogo. Both trades were funneled through the forums so I really don't feel like I got ripped off. Like I said earlier, OV has kind of taken a step back this season but not so much that he can be traded for a band-aid boy and a decent defensemen. It will take a significant offer.

Good luck

No way I take Gaborik as part of the deal. Too risky. I’d be asking for this:

Eriksson, Lundqvist, Enstrom and the 1st rounder
for
AO, Backstrom and Gonchar.

I’d be expecting you to counter, but hoping that you would just accept.

OK. What i was hoping to do was to get a top LW for Gabby and another non keeper.

If you noticed, I only have 8 keepers decided on so far. Im on the fence about keeping Enstrom or Clowe. I'm probably leaning towards Clowe, but i'd rather trade for someone im sure about.

Gaborik isn't someone i'd like to keep long term, so trading him away is something im fine with. Alfie falls in this category as well

Are there any LW players you think i should go after with Gabby or Alfie involved in the trade. Obviously Gabby is going to get me more value than Alfie is
