The guy has always intrigued me, mainly due to his insanely inexpensive contract which pays him less than $600K for this year and the next 3. In a salary cap keeper, that's as cheap as it gets. He's quietly put up 8 points over the last 10 games, which is pretty impressive and was enough for me to pick him up on waivers in my pool. The main knock against him is that he plays for the Islanders, a shambles of an NHL franchise, and a major +/- concern. That said, he's generally known for playing well in his own zone, so possibly the +/- isn't as much a concern as it would be for other Islanders dmen. With Wisniewski gone and Streit still out, it figures that this is the golden opportunity for the likes of MacDonald, Hillen and Hamonic.
Would be interested in hearing other people's opinions.

I think the fact that a lot of people have looked at this but not commented kind of confirms that no one wants to stick their necks out about this guy - not that surprising. Kind of a dark horse to watch.
Plus the NYI now have Ty Wishart to add to their list of dark horse dmen.

I grabbed Andy Mac after the deal and am pretty happy I did so. I read a few articles, and it looks like the play of him and Hamonic made Wiz expendable. He responded with 2 A's and top PP minutes in his first post-wiz game.
At the very least, he will get a half a season logging prime PP minutes (barring anything unforeseen) and that alone makes him very relevant, especially in a big league. Good luck

The key is going to be watching to see how the PP time is split between the dmen.....but as of right now, I'm with you that MacDonald is the guy to own. (7 points in his last 7 games...with 5 of those points coming of the PP)
I'm pretty happy with my current depth on D......but MacDonald's at the top of the list of WW guys I may soon have to grab, depending on how his next few games play out.

I just grabbed him as a d tweak in my 16 team dynasty league where you have to dig really deep for FA's. Saw those 2 A and the kind of minutes he is playing lately so you have to think once Streit gets back he will remain on the top PP unit and still play big minutes!

Another 2 points tonight (with 7 min left in the NYI game). This guy is killing it right now - fun to watch.
