Will Gilbert's numbers improve with Whitney hurt, or will his absence hurt Gilbert more. I'm considering a trade of Carlson for Tavares, but it would leave me a defenseman short, and Gilbert is the only even remotely appealing WW option.

I'm no expert but my guess may be as good as anyone's...either Gilbert or Foster benefits from increased powerplay minutes and top minutes overall.

I always wonder about the counter argument though - when a guy has to carry more of a load on a bad team getting worse (eg Islanders or Oilers), he's someone to stay away from. It will be interesting to get the collective take here....

U cant go wrong. Hes shown he can be a solid PP guy in the past.

Keep an eye on Petry too. He was playing great in the A. Hopefully Renney will give him some PP time.

Gilbert has shown increases in production in the past when big guns go down (Souray, Visnovsky, etc..) so I think he's worth the risk here.
