Studs of the Night
no particular order Not So Blue STL won their 22nd (of 30) franchise game against CBJ with a solid performance from Halak, Backes and E. Johnson. Backes notched 1G and 2A, he now has 7 points in 5 games – just forget about the fact the other 4 points were all made in a single game performance back in November (30th). And with two assists tonight, Johnson now has 5 in his last 5. Flying high Flyers dominated the Leafs tonight and are officially the first team to score 100+ goals this season. Fun Fact: Pens and Flyers are currently the top two teams in the league while the Devils and Isles are 29th and 30th in the league respectively (Pennsylvania vs. New York Area). Briere is now 5th in the NHL in goals and 4th in +/- after a strong 2 goals and 3 points performance. Vokoun Shuts the Door After allowing 3 or more goals in his last 6 starts, it was nice to see Vokoun (one of my favourite tenders, being a preds fan and all) get a well deserved 36 save shut out against the Caps. In passing, this is his 251st career win (his 250th was on Tuesday), 41st tender in history to accomplish that feat. Duds of the Night no particular order Ovechkin, where art thou? - After being held pointless again tonight, OV only has 3 points in his last 5 games (FLA, TOR, ATL, DAL, STL). As you can see, those match ups are clearly teams Ovechkin should be capitalizing against (at least some of them anyway). Oh and Mike Green only has 1 point in his last 10 games... Bittersweet Maple Part II - After surrendering the first 4 goals in yesterday's game, the Leafs did it again tonight going down 3-0 early in the second period. It was the second half of their b2b Pennsylvanian trip... maybe they'll do better against the fourth top team in the East (Montreal) on Saturday! Islander's being buried alive - This nightmare of a season continues with another loss tonight. Wishing their 5-15-5 record was fiction, there's no saving these Islanders as they've definitely crossed the danger line. (Play on words - Rep to the member who patches it together) Feel free to write in another Stud or Dud below!
