I've never been a fan of Jason Blake, and I think Souray would give the Anaheim blueline some much needed grit that they lacked since O'Brien, Wisniewski, and Boyton left (Mara and Sutton are pretty meh). Good post dub!

That's why I think Kevin Bieksa could be a good fit too. He's offensive and gritty. If Edmonton keeps losing though, they might seriously consider moving Souray for lower than they were hoping.

Souray would have to clear re-entry waivers before he could play a single game in NHL this year. No team will trade for Souray and then take the risk that someone else graps him from re-entry waivers and they'd be left on the hook for half of Souray's salary and cap hit. Edmonton can't get anything in return for him until next summer. Then they might able to swap him for another bad contract.

Well, you can't have Pronger back. With the Ilses in shambles, I'd try and get Streit from Snow and tread water until he comes back from IR...and hope he comes back early.

I completely missed the fact that the Ducks traded away Ryan Carter. Chipchura is coming off the IR soon and they needed to make room. If Chipchura's not fully recovered from his concussion yet, which in today's day and age is a very real possibility, Marchant can also play the role of 4th line center.

not sure where to post this but i remember this section saying they were ANA fans and wanted some insight into whats going on over there. now with getzlaf out 3-5 more weeks how do we see the lines shapping up.
do we see a top line of perry/ryan/belesky or some other variation. my team is sucking this season and with getzlaf out i dont have much replacment options. i have belesky on my farm and can add him or do wavier wire fodder to hold out. basically i have prust right now as my replacement to show the lvl of talent or lake there of.

No worries newper.
Last game the Ducks lines looked like this: Beleskey-Ryan-Perry Blake/McMillan-Koivu-Selanne Marchant-Chipchura-Lupul Marchant-Bonino-Parros Over the last 3 games they've kept Beleskey on the top line with Ryan and Perry and they look to be shuffling McMillan around a lot. With Getzlaf down, now is a great time to make a trade and try to bring in a quality forward. A defenseman is still a pretty big priority, but with Sbisa playing a little better, the need isn't as strong as it used to be. Instead they should concentrate on adding a depth forward, especially if they want to make the playoffs. Jason Blake should go, if possible. If not, they'll keep him on board as a depth player just in case, but ideally, they'd love to see him in a different home as soon as possible. In the short term, the lines should end up like this: Beleskey-Ryan-Perry Blake-Koivu-Selanne McMillan-Bonino-Lupul Marchant-Chipchura-Parros They could send Lupul up to the top line, but their 3rd line would end up much too young. To successfully land anyone, they'll likely have to take a player who is (at least slightly) overpaid. With NJ's dismal season, Anaheim might actually inquire to the availability of Jason Arnott. They would use him on the top line too, which would end up like this: Ryan-Arnott-Perry Blake-Koivu-Selanne Beleskey/McMillan-Bonino-Lupul Marchant-Chipchura-Parros You hope they can shed Blake in a trade like that, but you never know. Once the playoffs start, Arnott would center the third line and either Bonino or Chipchura would have to shift to wing for a little bit. Arnott is a UFA after this season, so he would be used strictly for the playoff push. Other potential candidates might be Pominville, Havlat, Bergeron, Antropov, Kovalev, or Michalek if any of them are available. If the Ducks can't find a home for Blake initially, I don't think they'll have a problem placing him on waivers and demoting if they absolutely need the cap space.
