Default Phaneuf and Bouwmeester

Hello guys,

Keeper league : I\'m wondering if there is such a big difference in value between Dion Phaneuf and Jay-Boom. For D-men, my league gives 3 points for a goal and 1 for an assist. I know there is a big value to Phaneuf among my fellow GMs and that Bouwmeester, because he didn\'t turn into a stud at Phaneuf-like speed, still is a little unrecognized.

So, I think I could make an offer that would give me something like a 5th overall pick and Jay-Boom for Phaneuf. That means I could land a Michalek, a Toews, a Pominville, a Voracek, depending on who\'s avalaible.

However, since only two defensemen count, it is a big question. My other D is the aging Schneider, so I gotta replace him soon (in the upcoming draft). So, my question is : will Phaneuf be that much better than Bouwmeester next year, and the ones after ? Or will the margin vanish, leaving both quite equal fantasy-wise ?

Would you consider making that kind of offer, or would moving Phaneuf be a gross mistake ?

Thanks.

I think it would even out and if you got Toews with that pick you\'d make off like a bandit. Hell, see if you can get a second...later pick and try and snag Letang with it. That would solve your Schneider problem too.

Thanks, Dobbs. In fact, yeah, Letang is in my plans, and I\'ve got a second-round pick (around 18th) : he\'ll definitely be my man if he\'s still there. I\'ve got the 6th overall too : I\'d like to grab Mueller with this one, maybe Kostitsyn or Kane, Cherepanov, don\'t know yet, still thinking about it.

Well, guess I\'ll meditate about this, then. It is still hard to think about trading Phaneuf, but it could be a good move...

I think you\'d be crazy to give up Phaneuf. His first year in the league he was second (by only one goal) in the league in goals by a defencemen. This past year he was ONLY 5th. I do like Bouwmeester, but I don\'t think he\'s a goal scoring defenceman. He\'s scored 23 goals in 307 games compared with Phaneuf\'s 37 in 161 games. Age isn\'t a factor as they are 22 and 24 respectively. I stick with Phaneuf as Bouwmeester is a gamble to repeat his 12 goal performance. 3 pts for a goal, ya gotta keep Phaneuf!

With that 6th overall pick you\'ll still end up with a decent player. Even if you had Bouwmeester, the 5th & 6th overall picks, I\'d still rather have Phaneuf & the 6th overall. The players you named are still years away from big numbers in the NHL.

Agreed Comish - don\'t get me wrong, Phaneuf is far superior, but the bottom line is he\'ll beat Bouwmeester by five goals and 10 assists this year...and down the road those numbers will be down to two and three! So if he\'s confident he can get Toews with that pick, or a Mueller, I think it\'s worth the downgrade.
