Default Saturday 20th - Studs & Duds

Studs of the night - Night of the Tenders

Honourable Mention: Liles -
Two assists tonight increase his point totals to 3G, 15A for 18 points in 19 games.
He also has 9 points in the last 6 games played, 3 of which are multi-point outings.

Honourable Mention - Ward, Vokoun, Crawford, Smith - All solid 1GA games.

3. Rinne - The better half.
Pekka cashed in a solid 21 save 1GA shoot out win over Carolina.
With a bad start to the week, Rinne made up for himself with his last two starts:
51 saves, .5 GAA, .978 SV%. The Preds have 3 shoot out wins in their last 5 games.
(Thanks to Lamothe who spotted that it was in fact Rinne's 2nd SO of the season on Friday)

2. CBJ - Can I get a SO & Natural hatty, please?
Garon had a 35 save Shut Out over SJS, good for his 3rd SO in only 7 Game Starts this season. Also, in the 3-0 win, Nash scored all three goals to get a natural hat trick and of course, the game winner.

1. Original Duo - Battle of the tenders (TOR/MTL).
Although Gustavsson let in 2GA, his 37 save performance was stellar. The only two goals scored on him were an unstoppable deflection and a terrible hockey decision by Komisarek.

After tonight's game, Price leads the league in wins (12) and shutouts (4th, tied with Thomas). Not too shabby for a guy who got booed off the ice in MTL's first preseason game of the season! Here's an extended comparison of the two goalies we like to compare most :

Price - 19gp, 12W, 4SO, 38GA, 520Saves, 2.0GAA, .932 SV%, 1A, 63.16 Win%
Halak - 15gp, 9W, 3SO, 36GA, 362Saves, 2.45GAA, .910 SV%, 2PIM, 60.0 Win%

Duds of the Night
Dishonourable Mention: Luongo -
4GA in under 11 minutes of the second period against CHI (16/20).
Schneider didn't do that well either, 3GA and 18 saves (of 21)

3. Lalime - Fumbles the game!
The Buffalo tender mishandled the puck and passed it right to TB's Hall who tucked in the GWG.

2. Komisarek - Most have forgotten that he's no longer a Hab!
The ex-Montreal defenseman made a very nice no look, front of the net pass to… Cammalleri who one-timed the eventual go ahead goal of the game.

1. NYI - Ties a franchise worst, yikes!
12 game losing streak matches the 72-73 Islanders going 0-11-1.
Meaning they've only managed one point of a possible 24 in that span.
They've also only lit the lamp 11 times in the last 10 games played.
Oh and they are 0-2-0 under their new coach as well.

But 4 years after that, they went on a Stanley Cup winning streak - good news for Long Island in 2015!

You would say that wouldn't ya! (owning both of them )

Needless to say, they do deserve an honourable mention. I had seen the score sheet and I was going to put them in but I got overwhelmed by the tender theme of the evening. Thanks for mentioning it!

~ I'll also use this post to thank Metal and Praba for taking over Thursday and Friday. It feels great knowing the Studs & Duds won't skip a beat with quality guys to turn to. I think this will be a reoccurring thing, meaning I'll be asking a guest member or two to do Studs & Duds on random evenings.
