wow...the decision becomes even easier in a cap situation...love the deal for you. I liked it before. Now I love it. Good job.
And I definitely do not think Myers is/was a flash in the pan.

Agreed Myers is the real deal and that team will turn it around and you will have him to reap the rewards congrats on getting Hudler too!!!

I do agree with what Millhouse said. But Myers is the real deal and sometimes you have to grab someone like him while you can. I am almost certain that the point difference between Myers and Gonchar by season's end (barring injury to either player) will be less than 15 pts. Next year the gap might be even smaller. And in 3 years when Gonchar is 39, well, I just don't see him putting up great numbers. I like Gonchar, but he isn't Lidstrom or Niedermayer. He is already showing signs of slowing down and he has been hit hard by the injury bug. Older players are, I'm afraid to say, sometimes more susceptible to injuries.

Smart move, selling high on Gonchar especially looking at what you get back in Myers. Gonchar has been a stud for many years, and might continue into this year, but trust me, he's going to hit a wall, sooner then later. Myers is going to be part of the elite, for many years to come.

You make a nice point, especially using Kulikov as an example. Only in the deepest of keeper leagues would I consider trading Gonchar for Kulikov, but Myers is a different animal. You are talking about a kid who put up 45+ as a rook.

I wouldn't do this trade straight up. I'd be looking for a premium for trading the better player this year. When you are trading for potential, make sure you pay potential prices.

When I evaluate a trade such as Gonchar for Myers, I consider: 10-11: Gonchar (55) vs. Myers (42). 11-12: Gonchar (52) vs. Myers (46). 12-13: Gonchar (50) vs. Myers (48). 13-14 and on: Myers (45-55) and ziltch from Gonchar. So, for the sake of roughly 8-12 points a year (for the next two years), you would risk passing up on a defenseman who will give you 45-55 points solid for the next 12+ years? Myers is not a prospect like Goncharov, etc. He is producing well as a youngster and his top-end is fantastic.

I agree with your valuations, but I still would not do that trade straight up. I think the guy getting Gonchar should have to pay a higher price than just Myers.
