Look, I have EJ in my pool and I'm a bit perturbed at his start.

But to go from a sure 50pt guy to "over-rated" and "drop him" after 12, 13 games is ridiculous. He had 24mins ice time last game, with +7 mins of PP time.

If he'd managed two assists in that game, does that change everything?

If its a keeper pool, I think its far too early to get rid of EJ...unless the deal is obviously very good.

Just my two cents, but don't rush to move this guy.

I agree. He's still a 50 point guy, but I think the drawback here is that you're seeing players like Piet and Coliacovo (when he's healthy) steal his PP time and some of his ice time. This could mean say goodbye to the 60 point projections, but he's still a great keeper for most leagues.

EJ is not overrated when looking at the big picture. But if anyone is expecting 50 points from him right now they should curb their expectations. Long-term, I love EJ and see him growing into a Chris Pronger type.

Got another good look at EJ today when the Blues played the Bruins, and he really did nothing to impress me offensively. He is pretty solid in his own end but I do not care how much ice time he gets, he did nothing to generate offense. Pietrangelo, on the other hand, was impressive.

I know a lot of guys here see a bright future in EJ so I do not want to rain on anyones parade by giving my opinion on it, but I will believe that he can get 50 points a season when I see it. Many of you are in deeper leagues that put a lot of weight on prospects and so I can understand the need for patience but with one team in a one year league, and another in a keep-6 keeper league, I do not see the point in keeping him around any longer. It sucks, I was really banking on him doing a heck of a lot better than this.

I'm debating whether or not to try and trade EJ for Pietrangelo in my keeper league - I think the guy would go for it.
I watched an earlier game this year and saw some awesome puck handling skills from EJ, but now I'm hearing that Pietrangelo is the real offensive go-to guy in St.Lou.
My league does not count PIMs and has categories for both PPAs and PPGs which is why I'm considering it.

Just keep in mind, a d-man's draft position is more likely due to defensive zone ability rather than offense. All these big mobile, tough, skilled d-men that chosen high in the draft will not necessarily translate their offense to the NHL. EJ may be one of these guys. Without prime PP duty getting over 40 pts will be very difficult.

There is a much higher correlation with draft position & offense with forwards versus draft position & offense with d-men.

EJ is playing 24 minutes a night, getting 3+ minutes a night on the PP.......sits amongst some of the top shooting defenseman, averaging over 2 shots on goal per game.....

...yet still only has 5 points in 22 contests.

Thoughts?

Well one could argue that he is overrated as far as offense goes...

Thing is though, he's shown pretty decent offensive capabilities already......33 points in 69 games as a 19 year old......39 points in 79 games as a 21 year old (coming off a pretty major injury/surgery no less).........are pretty significant offensive achievements for a defenseman.

No question though........his 5 points in 22 contests this year, are a massive disappointment.....but I think he may be a decent buy-low candidate right now.
