Default Where is Carl Gunnarsson?

Where has he been this season? Healthy scrathches. Next to no PP time.

I have a chance at acquiring him in a points only league, but would like opinions as to what we can expect from him this year & beyond.

Will he ever be 40+ pt. D?

No. He's never been a big scorer in any league. Don't let last years solid rookie numbers from the second worst team in the league fool you. I can't see him ever becoming more than 25 point D-man.

A year ago he was nobody. Had absolutely no fantasy value. Not much has changed since even though he's made the NHL. He's buried in the depth charts in Toronto and will continue to rotate as the 6th D-man with Lebda throughout the season.

Unless you're giving minimal return there's no point in acquiring him.

He's buried behind some more highly paid defenders. He could be a complimentary 30 point guy next to a top defensive partner. Just be careful when evaluating partial seasons as a sign of things to come. It's a smaller sample of games so any hot streak becomes that much more significant on the per-game average.

Just to add to this he's looked very, very, VERY bad so far this year. Looks lost on the ice 90% of the time. Hasn't been helped out much by poor play from most of the Leafs defenders but still, it seems like Lebda's slowly taking over that #6 spot. An injury to Kaberle/Phaneuf/Beauch is what Gunnarsson needs to become relevant this season since Schenn's been the 2nd defender on the 2nd PP so far this season.

Wow, glad I asked. I think I was valuing him too highly.
