Default What Would Be Your Top Picks?

Through many trades this year, I\'ve managed to get 4 of the top 13 picks in next years draft (1st, 5th, 9th & 13th). The draft consists of both rookies and veterans. My keeper league count points and +/- only and you must dress 9F, 6D & 2G. Here are the top players I see being available, please give me your take on the top 13. Note that all 2007 draftees are also available.

Forwards: Nicklas Backstrom, Jordan Staal, Paul Stastny, Martin Erat, David Legwand, Aleksey Morosov, Peter Mueller, Jonathan Toews, Patrick O\'Sullivan, Brian Little, Chris Higgins, Andrei Kostsitsyn, Travis Zajac, Drew Stafford, Daniel Cleary, Sergei Federov and Cory Stillman

D-men: Erik Johnson, Andrei Markov, Kevin Bieksa, Kris Letang, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Jakub Kindl

Goalies: Niklas Backstrom, Peter Budaj, Mike Smith, Josh Harding and Carey Price

To help, here are my current keepers:
Forwards: Jarome Iginla, Rick Nash, Maxim Afinogenov, Corey Perry, Jeff Carter, Gilbert Brule and Alexander Radulov
Defense: Ryan Whitney, Shea Weber, Jack Johnson and Cam Barker
Goalie: Ryan Miller

Here are my picks for you to take with your 4 1st round picks

1st: Backstrom (WAS)
5th: Backstrom (MIN)
9th: Stastny, J. Staal, or Toews (whoever is available)
13th: Markov or Johnson (whoever you prefer)

What do I base this on?:
- Well the 1st overall pick has to go to Backstrom in that draft pool.
- Then you need some Goalie Help with only having Miller, I think Backstrom will have a strong showing next year (especially if he signs with MIN again).
- Taking one of these F next will give you 9 amazing young F.
- Finally we need to fill out your D since you only have 4. Either of those 2 guys will help you out with points and +/-, although Markov\'s +/- might be better next year then Johnson\'s.

Just my 2 cents. Also, with only carrying 17 roster spots (9F,6D,2G) how many people are in your league and how many draft rounds are there? It seems that having 4 1st round picks basically fills your team up.

Thanks \"The Good Sir\" I was already pretty much convinced of taking Backstrom (WSH) first overall. As for my roster, we also have a bench of 8 guys any position to fill out, and I have 2 third round picks as well and free agency to go through.

Only 9 fwds, 6 def and 2 goalies? Your pool is heavily slanted towards defencemen. With your current defence being VERY young, I\'d lean towards a proven guy like A.Markov before an unproven \"highly hyped\" guy with a potentially large negative plus/minus in Backstrom.

With the fifth overall selection, I\'d select the goalie Backstrom who looks to be the starter in MIN. You need two starters in goal and Backstrom looked very good and will start next season as the number one in MIN.

9th overall, I\'d look to Backstrom WSH (probably already taken) or maybe even J.Staal. You don\'t lose much with Staal, he\'s a year ahead of Backstrom developmentally and PIT will be better than WSH for many years (affects plus/minus).

Don\'t forget about an oldie like Stillman. He\'s still under contract with CAR for another year and had 76 pts the year before this write off year. He\'s got potential for a 70-75 pt season next year, but I don\'t like him as a keeper.

Also like Legwand (breakout or career year?), Budaj and Stastny. I love Erik Johnson\'s upside, I just think in the situation he\'s in (read STL), that he\'ll take several years before he\'s valuable in your type of pool.

By the way, love your keepers, nice mix of experience and youth!
