Default Would you do this ? My heart is broke...

Hello guys,

Keeper league, I\'m trying to land a solid first round pick for our draft. I\'m not in a rebuilding mode, I\'m gonna still compete for the first place next year again, but some guys on my teams are aging, and I want to keep my squad well balanced between proven guys, young studs and possible goldmines.

Anyway, there\'s this offer I received this morning :

I\'d give : Chris Drury and a 4th
I\'d receive : A 1st (5th overall)

I love Chris Drury, my heart is broke, I want to keep him on my team, but should I accept this ? Seems hard to refuse...

However, I\'m afraid of this free agency thing. What if he signs somewhere else and play with a Gagne, an Ovechkin, a Cammalleri ? Would his numbers raise to the point I\'d feel like jumping from my window, or should I pull the trigger, assuming he can\'t possibly be any better than he is now ?

Thanks.

Drury has always been a great roleplaying forward... he\'s never had 70 points in a season (despite playing for deisel buffalo and colorado teams). I also honestly think that buffalo will resign drury over briere, for his great all around play and leadership (so the possibitlity of him playing with \"elite\" wings is somewhat unlikely in my opinion)...

I just don\'t see drury getting more than 80 points at any point in his career. He\'s also over 30 now too. If there is a great prospect you can get with the 5th pick, I\'d go for it, whether you\'re rebuilding or not.

Never been a big Drury fan in the pools. I guess it all depends on what type of players are available with the 5th overall pick. It sounds like your pool isn\'t that big (38th overall pick in the 4th round). If you don\'t protect very many players, then I would definitely pull the trigger.

From a fantasy perspective, unless you have an emphasis on goals, Drury\'s numbers are not that special, no plus/minus or penalty minutes (if it matters) to speak of and he\'ll be 31 when next season rolls around. He\'s just had his career year, there will never be a better time to trade him.

How many players do you keep in your keeper league? IS your whole team comprised of keepers? I also agree with The Comish that he just had his career year and there has never been a better time to trade him. I say (depending on who\'ll be available in the 5th spot) make the deal.

P.S. First post here at the Dobber Forums, I just found this site and it\'s awesome. This community is really knowledgable and involved, I love it!

Thanks guys. Yeah, all keepers, 16 roster spots, with 2 goalies, 2 d-man and the Top 8 forwards counting, a farm team for picks that are under 24 and haven\'t played 50 games yet. So they are all keepers, but you got to manage with the spots you have left, the kids you have to bring in the big club, and so on.

As for who\'s gonna be avalaible, some real strong stuff, if you ask me :

Cherepanov, Kane, Voracek and Turris, of course, but also guys like Backstrom, Toews, Little, Mueller, Ryan, without counting Stastny, Perry, Bouchard, Pominville, Frolik, Brown, Huselius, Giroux, Higgins, Stafford, Michalek, Erik Johnson, Carle, among others...

:woohoo:

The more I look at it, the more I feel like I can\'t miss this chance, and your opinions are confirming it...

After seeing that lineup of players still available I say take it! I was lucky enough to get the first overall pick this year, so Backstrom is officially mine!

Man oh Man Radulov, the only guy on that list that is available in my keep\'s league is Giroux and the first 4 who are yet to be drafted ofcourse. I would try and get a 3rd rounder out of him a few years later aswell as his 1st for 2007. Why not offer him drury for his 1st pick in the 2009 draft??

Both excellent suggestions by Zorro.
