My first kid recently came along. Some time while changing a diaper in the wee hours of yesterday morning, I came to discover that my fantasy hockey team and my kid have a number of similarities.

[ul][li]You usually think about it for a long time before creating it, but sometimes it just happens.[/li]
[li]You give birth to it.[/li]
[li]If you drank heavily while creating it, it may have a birth defect.[/li]
[li]Despite its flaws, it\'s love at first sight.[/li]
[li]It comes with an immense feeling of responsibility.[/li]
[li]You have a new source of stress and worry that wasn\'t there before.[/li]
[li]It\'s on your mind 24/7.[/li]
[li]You start losing sleep over it.[/li]
[li]It demands tons of attention.[/li]
[li]If you don\'t feed it, it gets sick.[/li]
[li]Sometimes it just won\'t eat (trading is frustrating).[/li]
[li]Every now and then it craps itself, and you have to clean up the mess (Gaborik and Havlat owners know what I\'m talking about).[/li]
[li]Sometimes it seems like it never stops crapping.[/li]
[li]You think that it\'s better than everyone else\'s.[/li]
[li]It can become expensive.[/li]
[li]Lots of hiccups.[/li]
[li]Occasionally, all it takes is a little burp to make everything right.[/li][/ul]
I\'m sure there are way more, but all this really proves is the extent of my addiction.

i too have not yet been blessed with a child but when i do have one, i\'ll come back to this post and show my wife who, by the way, already thinks i\'m a little \'too involved\' with the fantasy hockey to begin with. showing her this will just ice it!

congrats on the kid!! i hope to be joining the masses of fatherhood soon and can\'t wait to clean up some havlats.
