Working on an article, looking for feedback/input.
What trades do you want to see this summer? Why? If they make sense (you can justify them), I'll toss them in the article. Give me 50-100 words. Some I am tossing around in my noggin... Spezza to CBJ, Price to SJ, Kaberle to Buffalo, Hunwick to Vancouver, Regehr to Washington.... etc.

Angus audits the NHL. I love it!
Trades I'd like to see . . . Hartnell for Ovechkin? lol. I'd love to see Carter go to Florida for Horton and one of the Panther's young tenders. I doubt it will happen, but we know that Florida is interested in Carter since they tried to get him for Vokoun at the deadline. Markstrom isn't goinganywhere, but Salak may be slightly more available. There are plenty of problems with this deal including trading within the conference, and adding salary, but I still think it's a solid foundation for a deal for Philly. A more likely option (and all credit for this one goes to playmaker) is Carter to LA for Dustin Brown and maybe a young tender. I'd love to get Bernier back in a deal, but that probably isn't going to happen. Quick is a solid young goalie, and the salary for Quick/Brown matches up with Carter's nicely. Anyway, those are just the 4AM ramblings of a guy with nothing better to do, lol. Again, the Carter for Brown idea was playmakers, so if you use it please give him some credit. Hell, he was the one that got me thinking about a Carter trade at all, lol. One last trade idea. Wasn't there a lot of talk a few years back about a Carter for Kaberle deal? lol

Carey Price to Philadelphia
James van Riemsdyk to Montreal Safe to say Halak is the man in habs land. habs need a t6 forward to complement cammaleri, plekanec, gionta and gomez. i imagine the habs are better off with a veteran backup that can spell halak than doing the goalie musical chairs again. jvr has a good cap hit for a team that are tight to the cap. flyers have an embarassment of riches in their forward depth. leighton/boucher clearly isnt the answer so theyll get a young goalie with superstar potential playing behind chris pronger. Tomas Kaberle (w/ extension) to Dallas James Neal to Toronto dallas badly needs a puck-moving dman after zubov left. leafs need top 6 gritty wingers and neal fits that criteria. neal cooled down significantly last season while richards and eriksson stayed hot so there is some cause for concern. however, neal is still very very young and already has 2 20+ goal seasons as a 22 year old Blake Wheeler and the 2nd overall pick to Edmonton 1st overall pick to Boston Taylor Hall is the scoring winger the bruins need. seguin is a great player in his own right but the bruins already have savard, bergeron, and kreijci down the middle. the oilers should be relatively indifferent which future stud they get so they might as well get something extra to make their decision easier for them. I like the idea so far! Like strider, you need at least one trade from Phillie with all the depth they have.

Just an observation......If everyone posts on this thread instead of PM'ing him, I don't think anyone will read the he writes. I don't know of many people that will read the same rumors twice.

Kovalchuk to Avs- I just think he would fit their offense and fit right in with their youth movement.
Carter to LA for Dustin Brown/Johnathan Quick- LA does not do it but it would benefit both teams IMO. Carter is a big center and I would be reluctant to trade him knowing Briere's defensive woes this offseason... But it would allow us to resign Coburn and Giroux. Iginla to DAL for Riberio and Brunnstrom- Just works IMO. EDIT: What about Carter for Kiprusoff? Iginla wants weapons if he's staying put and Kipper has a nice decrease in salary for the next 4 years.

Jordan Staal to Toronto for Kaberle and Kulemin & spare parts.
Pittsburgh has Malkin and Crosby so Stall who should be a 1st line center is under utilized on the 3rd line. Pittsburgh needs a puck moving D to replace Gonchar and they need help on the wing. There was talk that Pittsburgh might have to trade Malkin to get the diversified attack they need going forward. Moving Staal as much as they would hate to see him go makes more sense than moving Malkin. Perhaps Kunitz comes with Staal to balance out the cap issues if Grabovski is invloved. Pittsburgh apparently expressed interest in Kaberle at the trade deadline Kulemin already has a history playing with Malkin and would be a great fit. There may be a need to flush this one out with other bits and pieces like adding Grabovski or Mitchel or one of the Marlies Big Four. This type of block buster might include a draft pick or two to balance out the deal for both sides. Needless to say Burke and Toronto fans would love to have Staal. It would also to watch Staal take of as a point producer playing with Kessel and Stalberg. Hope that provides some ideas to work with. |

James Neal to Pittsburgh for Alex Goligoski + mid round pick.
Dallas would get a young puck-moving D-man that they desperately need. Goligoski is signed at great terms for the next two seasons where as Neal will require a salary close or over 3 million per year. So Dallas would get some cap savings which they could use because of their ownership situation as well as a young D-man to run their PP. They've got lots of quality at wing so having someone like Goligoski at D might be more important to the team overall than having Neal. Pittsburgh on the other hand would get the top quality winger they're in need of. Neal next to Malkin or Crosby would be a deadly compination. Neal adds a lot of grit with a great scoring touch to the team. Neal is young player with a lot room to improve and next to Malkin or Crosby he would improve to his fullest potential. Pittsburgh would obviously need to sign another puck-moving D-man to go with Letang so this trade would most likely require Gonchar to be re-signed prior this trade would happen. I'd also like to see the end to those never-ending Staal for Kaberle proposals. It ain't happening folks, move on! |
