Bingo is an unknown quantity at this point
Dobber Sports Sophomore
Default Goalie situation

Hi Angus,

5th overall so far in my Yahoo! keeper league, but dead last in both goalie categories... not proud of it ! My team is in signature.

Time to pull the trigger and drop Khabi and/or Osgood for guys like Bernier, Schneider or Markstrom ? They are all available in my league and I don't care to be out of the money for another season.

Thanks

Your take on Kovalchuk for next year? Will he bolt back to Russia or stay in NHL? Where do you see him ending up and what kind of numbers is expected out of him? Kings is the rumoured place where Kovalchuk will want to go. Do you see him fitting there and what would you expect from Kopitar and Kovalchuk if they play together?

What can be expected of Minnesota's D-men (Zidlicky, Burns and Barker) next year? How would you rank them and what kind of points can we expect out of them?

As always, Thanks in advance Angus?

Secondly,
Who will be in Atlanta's top 6 next year if you could guess (which fwds will be let go?)?
Trying to project three years down the line is very tough, but I'll do my best.

Berglund
55-60
60-65
75-80

Little
55-60
60-70
60-70

Krejci (a lot depends what happens in BOS obviously)
55-70
55-70
55-70

Brassard
55-60 (less GP)
60-70
70-80

Giroux
60
70
85 (again, a lot depends on ice time, linemates, etc)

As for ATL, Antropov, Little, Bergfors, Peverley are locks. Not sure they bring Afino back (he has been a good fit offensively though).

Jiri Tlusty RW
Schremp R RW
Purcell T RW
Tikhonov V RW
Kostitsy A LW
Osulliva P LW
Drayson Bowman LW
Nilsson R LW
Esposito A C
Kostitsyn first.

OSullivan is the safest bet, but he has been a flop this season. Still, I'd take him second.

I'd dump - Schremp, Nilsson, Espositio, Tlusty, and Tikhonov

Not sure with plus-minus, not an easy stat to predict. Briere will get a chance to step up, whether he does or not remains to be seen. I'd expect a bump in production at least while Carter is out, though.

The reason I ask is because the last few years in my keeper we've expanded our rosters to the current 50 (25 regulars/25 farm) player limit. This summer we will do something different in that we'll conduct three rounds of drafting (as opposed to the regular five) and then we can keep 53 guys until Christmas, after which we'll have to trim the rosters down to 50 again. The plan is to do this every year from now on because we don't want to bloat the rosters any further.

So! What's your stance on how much one should value potential upside over how close a player is to cracking the NHL, or vice versa? Considering that quality players were being taken at around pick #60 last summer and we'll only go until #36 this year, AND rosters will have to be trimmed later on, I'm thinking that there could be an emphasis on guys that are closer to the big show but maybe don't have as much upside as the 18 year olds that will just be getting drafted. But that's just a hunch.

Let's say the top ten or so fantasy worthy 2010 draftees have gone, would you go for fresh draftees or look for talented guys that may not be picked up in my league yet? A few potential guys like that are Luke Adam, Greg Nemisz or Linus Omark, just as examples.

Thanks!
I always have that mindset.

Was able to land Del Zotto and Benn (picked him right after Duchene and JT) last summer in my prospect draft.

Patrick Maroon is an interesting player, but he might need a year or two in the AHL.

Keep an eye on NCAA signings - they are generally older and more NHL ready. Gilroy, Hanson, etc. Bozak as well. Players like that. There have been quite a few already.

Lehtonen. Leclaire is injury prone, and frankly not that good when healthy.

Points only keeper league, could you rate these prospects and what you think their upside is...

Brandon Sutter
Zach Boychuk
Logan Couture

Thanks!
Boychuk
Couture/Sutter

PPG for Boychuk (realistically 65-70), and a bit less for the other two.

We start 5 Defenseman each season.

Thanks.
A lot depends on if he sticks in WSH. Next year, 25-30. Long-term? Probably 45-55. Not sure he has Mike Green's dynamic upside, but then again Mike Green grew into the player he is today, he wasn't like that as a prospect.
