Default What on earth is Darryl Sutter thinking?

Any cap savings from Phaneuf (6.5) are going to be eaten up next year with Hagman (3 mill per) and Kotalik (two years left at 3 per).

Jokinen's real value was with his expiring deal.

hagman is an alright player but kotalik is just brutal. They would've been better off letting Olli walk and filling the depth with the player of their choice this summer.

Higgins isn't much of an add either.

hagman and kotalik wont cut it. honestly, all these moves, sutter HAS to be going for kovalchuk, otherwise he's an idiot. too much players getting shipped out, the chemistry on his team will be horrible. or they could just have insane chemistry off the bat and go on an insane run and win the cup. nothing makes sense in hockey nowadays lol.

If this trade is true (Higgins, Kotalik for Jokinen, Prust), great trade for the Rangers. I'm sure all the Rangers fans will say we should be trading guys for picks, prospects, and what not to start to re-tool, but Kotalik is a sub-par NHL player at even strength, Higgins doesn't have a high enough offensive hockey IQ to ever been as good as everyone thinks he can, and adding Jokinen, despite his struggles, gives the Rangers a much needed top six forward, and helps them at center.

The Rangers add Jokinen for essentially nothing (Kotalik doesn't play, Higgins plays well defensively but we have plenty of solid defensive players) - great move by Slats.

As you said Angus, the Phaneuf trade alone makes sense. But adding Kotalik's 3 mil a season to Hagman's 3 mil a season for the next two seasons is just plain stupid.

Another dumb GM bails the Rangers out of a bad contract. Now the Rangers have the chance to take another shot at free agency. They'll probly screw it up again, but it's better than having that cap space eaten and not having a chance.

Jokinen is way better at wing. He sucks defensively, on the draw, and is far from a playmaker. I think he could click playing wing with Drury or Anisimov.

Haha, now we need Slats to ask Dolan if we can demote Redden.

Yeah exactly, as I said in the other thread - I highly, highly doubt he'll find himself on a line with Gaborik.

Gabby is doing fine with Prospal and Christensen/Dubinsky, putting Jokinen on the second line will bring a more balanced attack.

I wonder if they will try Jokinen at the point like he did in Florida.

could darryl be going after lecavalier?

he's gotta be doing something because these moves just don't make sense unless he's trying to lose his job.
