10 team full keeper league, defender points are more valuable, G,A,PIM,+/-,FW,SOH,SHP,PPP --- W, SV, GAA, So
no poistional requirements, just forwards, defenders and goalies. Here´s my team: Forwards: Crosby, J. Carter, Hossa, Savard, Briere, Iginla, Huselius, Kariya, Little, Wheeler, Mueller, Lupul, Defender: Wideman, Rafalski, Bouwmeester, Gilbert, Jovanovski, Burns, Myers Goalies: Ward, Quick, Rinne, Turco It´s a head to head league an my current record is 1-12. I still can´t believe that i just won a single game and can´t get things going (lost 8 straight games). Is my team really as bad as my record shows, or should i just hold on these guys and try again next season? Need a ton of thoughts. |

I think the main problem for you here is that D points are more valuable. your team is lacking of elite d-men such as Green, Markov, Weber, etc.
At the beginning of the season I would have slated Rafalski into the upper d tier, but he has been dissapointing this season. Your forwards are very good, but your goalies are underacheiving. Ward is just stuck on a team that cant win a game and Turco doesn't look like the Turco of old. when your best goalie this year is Quick.. your in trouble.

Dennis, you are the victim of what I'd call the perfect storm of bad luck. Now your team hasn't been ravaged by the injury bug but is instead essentially a who's who list of underperformers. These guys are too good to drop or sell low on so they act as an anchor weighing you down. It'd be easier if they were hurt cuz you could IR them or drop them but instead they sit there producing less than expected so every week your team finds a new way to lose.
Best thing you can do is just stay the course and enjoy your top draft pick this summer. A few little tweaks I'd recommend are jumping ship on Turco while he still has value and selling high on what few guys you can. (I'm looking at you Jovanovski) Otherwise just sit back and hope. Like I said, these guys are too good to sell low on so you just have to stick it out. It's kind of like how in the NBA the Spurs had a really good team but sucked for one year got the top pick Tim Duncan, and won the next title and have had a dynasty in place ever since. Not sure how much a basketball example will hold with you but that's the same place you could end up.

Your forwards are great, but you took a league that is D heavy. Probably cuz the guy that started it likes D, and has a D heavy team. It is easy to forget that fact when drafting in a "specialized league", that perhaps a Green is now worth a Crosby or Ovechkin with the tilted scoring. I joined a dumb league last year where the guy had almost every stat available for scoring. And then "knowing that face-offs were a heavy stat, proceeded to pick all the best wingers at face-offs as well as good centers. In the end, it was a very wide open league with little skill involved, and little change in any standings. Ultimately the guy who tried to prove how smart he was by trying to rig the draft in his favour still didn't win, though I believe he was a top 15 out of 20. The league was just too deep, and there was not much one could do to affect any change. Eventually more than half lost interest, and everybody got board. Next to no activity, and no responses to trade offers, people just let them expire. Ultimately it was most of our faults for not paying attention to the rules before the draft, as most of the league joined 'day-of'. In the end it was really skewed because with 20 teams a lot of teams split points like SH goals, but a guy who's team was garbage go lucky in that category and was rewarded 20pts for it. REALLY DUMB. On the other hand, I had a off-line draft with a few of my Dad's friends where D goals were worth two points, and forwards were normal, and Goalies got 2W 1OTL and 3SO. I was smart and took a table of projections, and skewed it to the proper scoring according to the D. Essentially I did my homework. We separated the draft orders by picking out of a hat for skaters, and then picked out of a hat for the order for goalies. I came in second behind a guy who had two teams, his and his wife's, and his wife picked 3rd overall for skaters and 1st overall for goalies. Getting Malkin and Luongo. I say all this to illustrate that the research was sound. I Won the playoff pool with this group in a straight points pickem. And was not invited back this year. It was a cash league, and the group of friends did not like losing to an outsider. But it was a fun league. Bottom line, don't join a league in a hurry and not realize the rules. No matter how good you are, if you have preconceived notions for drafting, like yahoo default scoring, and then draft in a specialized league without time to do your homework, your in for a rough ride. Your team is too top heavy when the scoring is skewed to D. Try trading one of your top forwards to someone else near the bottom of your league for a quality D, but make sure that quality is based on the scoring, and not whether you think he is good. A player good in one setting is virtually useless in others.
