i\'ve mainly heard back spasms but then in the daily ramblings hallsey said it was his knee.

I too read knee here on dobberhockey, but I heard back spasms on XM 204 this morning on the way to work.

The results of Ilya Kovalchuk\'s MRI exam Wednesday were negative and the Thrashers star is listed as day-to-day.

Thrashers general manager and interim coach Don Waddell said it was too soon to know if the back spasms that forced Kovalchuk out of Tuesday night\'s win over Washington would cost him the Florida game Friday as well.

\"Let\'s see how the next 24 hours goes,\" Waddell said. \"If [the MRI exam] comes back that it\'s strictly back spasms, 24 hours makes a huge difference.\"

Team doctors decided Tuesday night to have an MRI exam. It was reinforced Wednesday morning, Waddell said, when Kovalchuk woke up feeling very stiff.

Kovalchuk is in the midst of a seven-goal surge in his last three games including the first goal in a 2-1 win Tuesday, before he left midway through the second period. He has 13 goals in 15 games.

Ilya Kovalchuk was back on the ice this morning, although it was just a quick skate at the end of practice. But he’s confident he’ll be ready to go against Florida on Friday, so there’s some good news for you. You want some detail about how much pain Kovalchuk was in yesterday?

“I didn’t feel good at all. It was a little bit scary actually. I couldn’t even go in the bathroom,” he said after practice. Hey, we get in-depth here on the beat blog.

He expects to play, and said the doctors and trainers who were able to turn things around so quickly deserve a lot of credit. This could have been a lot worse, so assuming he doesn’t wake up in Florida tomorrow in extreme pain, he’ll be out there against the Panthers.

Kovy is turning into a real gamer...to think that he was in so much pain that he couldn\'t relieve himself yesterday and tonight he plays 24:06 with 2 points.

Here\'s a good question to ask though...why in the hell is Kovalchuk playing 24 minutes in a 4-1 win, which is also his first game since injury?! Good job Waddell...
