Figured I'd start up a thread about the offers that make you scratch your head.

We started a new dynasty league - 16 teams. An owner sent out a mass email that said Ryan Miller was available for offensive talent. I emailed him back and asked what kind of talent he's looking for (prospect, proven, winger, etc). He sent back an email that said it would take "Ward plus another player". Now - I drafted Ward in the 2nd round, and he drafted Miller in the 3rd. Why would I make a deal that I would obviously see as a downgrade - wouldn't I just draft Miller ahead of Ward???

well its those managers that want to move a player and get more for it back. they obviously thought that miller should have been drafted higher than ward.

emails like that are sometimes pointless to even respond to. i get them in other leagues as well. its like okay all crosby, malkin, ovech, type players are open for trade.. they arent really looking to move them.. unless they take your entire team.

It drives me bonkers when other GM's send trade proposals asking for one or two of my best players for a bunch of their spare parts. I know you should never lead with your best offer but you also shouldn't make your first offer insulting. Drives me nuts!

I actually wrote back and said, "thought you were looking for offense. Moving my 2nd rounder + something for your 3rd doesn't make sense". He said, "I was looking for offense, but from your team it's different" - presumably because I drafted Nabby/Ward 1-2.

Like Newper said, I doubt this guy moves Miller - his asking price will be too high.

My favourite one offered to me so far. In my roto league:

This was after his offer of a Elias, Recchi and Osgood for my same three, in which I replied that it was nowhere near close enough and why would I want an injured player.

Totally agree with wizworm here. We have a manager in our keeper league who has totally insulted the rest of us with ridiculous intial offers, and now wonders why no one counter-offers or makes deals with him. Agreed you don't start with your best offer, but you have to at least interest a person. Man, I think this thread has hit a nerve...
