I\'m thinking of making this proposal [I would potentially be getting Gonchar].

Our league counts top 12 forwards straight points, top 6 D [2pts per goal 1pt per assist] and top 2 goalies.

The guy who has Gonchar has crap else for D and so I give him two keepers for his one.

Is this a low-ball offer? Am I offering too much up front? Is this about right?

Understand, I have Ryan Whitney and would love to add S. Gonchar to my roster although I\'ll hate to part with both of these other D.

i think it\'s a mistake on your part to move those 2 D. It\'s a good deal for the other guy though.

What about M. Carle and R. Hainsey for S. Gonchar?

We keep a total of 10 each year and there\'s no way I can afford to keep more than 3-4 of these D for next season. I\'m just thinking of how I can procure the best possible 3 keeper defensemen without crippling my roster for this season.

Should I go after S. Gonchar? If so, what would you offer? Or should I simply stand pat?

I don\'t think he will either, EJ has more upside and a bigger name on his back. I would try EJ and Carle, or EJ and Markov... either way I think you achieve what you are trying to do.

You want Gonchar - pay the piper and get on with things! Carle and Markov is an overpay but it likely will get the deal done. Set yourself up to keep the guys you want. you won\'t bite the bullet too badly in points for this year.I think too often we chince around with marginal things and spoil the deal getting done.

Having Gonchar and Whitney for the next 2 or 3 years is going to anchor your D for sure.
