Hey guys, so I've decided to start a hockey pool with my friends and I'm wondering if the geniuses of the Dobber World could provide me some insight on how to create an awesome pool.
Here are a couple questions I have thus far.... 1. How would you police people forgetting to play their players? 2. How would you police trades? (Trade Committee, Vetoes, Nothing..unless the trade is ridiculous, etc.) 3. For a head-to-head league what is the ideal number of teams to have so that the pot is big, but you don't have too many teams? Right now I have 12 teams, but 2 more potentially want to join. Would 14 be too much? 4. What are proper pay outs? (I was thinking 1st regular season & 1st+2nd in playoffs should be in the money) 5. I am having an offline draft. Should I institute a certain time limit between picks? 6. Here are a couple setting I have thus far: 50 max moves; Waiver time = 1 day; Trade reject time = 0. Are these okay? 7. 2C, 4W, 4D, 2G, 5bench, 1IR. Is this how you would do it? 8. If you have any settings/regulations in your pool that are working really well please share them with me! Thanks so much guys! If you have a question regarding a problem with your team please post it and I will help you in return. Cheers

1. I wouldn't, if people don't play their players they don't win. That's policing enough for me. And since its just a one-year (I'm assuming) there's no point in tanking.
2. I like commish-review on trades, mostly because it tends to be the quickest way to get trades through. Trades don't get cancelled unless there is obvious collusion. 3. I've done 12, my 1 year league expanded to 14 this year and its a good number. Makes for a few more depth picks, but definitely doable. 4. Payouts are whatever you decide as commish/league. Just make sure you tell people what they are ahead of time, so they can't bitch about it later. I usually just do payouts for the top 3 in the playoffs, but its a good idea to have a bit for the regular season winner too. 5. I've done an offline draft before, and we ended up setting a max limit of a day on a pick as people would just not do it despite the constant harassing. 6. Those would work fine, though I'd consider setting the trade reject time to 1 day so you are able to review as the commish and authorize them. 7. I personally like splitting up LW/RW, but that's just down to preferences. Looks good otherwise.

1. How would you police people forgetting to play their players?
- Too bad so sad leave them be, look for a replacement guy! 2. How would you police trades? (Trade Committee, Vetoes, Nothing..unless the trade is ridiculous, etc.) - If someone in the league has an issue with a deal i have them email me, i then email the guys involved in the trade to get their reasoning why they did it, if they each make a legit case i realize it isn't colusion and let it be 3. For a head-to-head league what is the ideal number of teams to have so that the pot is big, but you don't have too many teams? Right now I have 12 teams, but 2 more potentially want to join. Would 14 be too much? - If you have good guys bigger is fine, if you have too many problem GM's it won't be fun, that is the main risk if you go bigger, the other is that you can expose the weakness of weaker gm's, if those are issues than big is fine 4. What are proper pay outs? (I was thinking 1st regular season & 1st+2nd in playoffs should be in the money) in H2H the playoffs are a crap shoot, i would pay top 2 in each perhaps, the regular season is harder to win than the playoffs, you just have to keep that in mind 5. I am having an offline draft. Should I institute a certain time limit between picks? - YES if you already have 12-14 guys they shoudl have time to get an idea of who they want next, but becareful this (time limit) is hard to do! 6. Here are a couple setting I have thus far: 50 max moves; Waiver time = 1 day; Trade reject time = 0. Are these okay? - Sorry can't remember how the reject works but if you do it email commish based it doesn't matter 7. 2C, 4W, 4D, 2G, 5bench, 1IR. Is this how you would do it? - Those are fine, it is what ever you feel works 8. If you have any settings/regulations in your pool that are working really well please share them with me! - don't put up with any crap on the message board, block guys when they get out of line and tell them to email issues to you, not to broadcast it to the league, keeps everyone happier have fun!
