Default 10 Fearless Forecasts

I have done this for a few years now. Basically before puck-drop each regular season, I'll post 10 forecasts or predictions, that are either very unlikely or a big surprise.

I've added a twist this season. From now until September 20th, you can post (or email) me your 10 Fearless Forecasts. I'll have mine up by mid September. The catch? If you get more of your predictions right than me, I'll do a free audit of one of your fantasy teams. Help you with trade advice, roster moves, ideas, and so on. I sort of do that now but this is just to make this thing a bit more interesting.

If you don't want others to see your predictions, email them to me or wait to post them closer to puck drop!

MY 10 Fearless Forecasts

10. Vesa Toskala is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.

9. James Neal outscores Brenden Morrow.

8. Sam Gagner and Patty O are 1-2 in Oilers scoring.

7. Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry combine for 100 goals.

6. Marian Gaborik plays over 75 games, scores 50+ goals, and becomes the biggest hit on Broadway since "Cats" (was that ever a hit?)

5. Atlanta has the #1 PP in the league, but fails to make the post-season once again because Kari Lehtonen gets hurt.

4. Toronto wins the Northeast Division.

3. Dany Heatley scores 60 goals, winning the Hart Trophy. With team TBA.

2. Crosby and Ovechkin are shut out of every major award.

1. Detroit misses the playoffs.

Thanks for doing this. I hope this is the kind of stuff you're looking for as I've never done this before.

-Boynton 30 pts (more ice time = more pts)
-Saku Koivu spends significant time on IR and Ebbett gets 52 points
-Jonas Gustavsson steals #1 job early like Lundqvist and wins 31 games
-Dallas Stars win Pacific division with 100 points
-Patrice Bergeron reclaims #2 centerman spot from injured Krejci and scores 62 points in 75 games
-Sergei Samsonov on waivers by Christmas, loaned to KHL for remainder of season
-Dave Bolland has big 2nd half with Hossa at his side, scoring 40 pts in back half, for 61 overall points
-Steve Ott unable to remain healthy which leads to Jamie Benn making a rookie impact with 28 goals and 24 assists
-Ville Leino's ice time is lower than expected as he pays his dues like all other Wings prospects, finishes with 36 points in his first full NHL season
-Sam Gagner arrives and scores 75 points

That was a great read Eric!

Angus, not meaning to rain on your parade here..... but

Dobbs I'm thinking this would be a rad (80's child here) addition to your guide, having each writer throw out a fearless forecast...

The addition of the lowdown last year I loved... great info on those guys that you aren't just sure of or don't know enough information about... To me something like this would be just as interesting.

da plug.

As a Wings fan, that's the numbers I'm expecting, so I wouldn't call that a fearless forecast. Most of the hype he's getting seems to come from wishful fantasy guys that refuse to apply how Babcock has treated literally every young player that plays for him. And frankly, Leino isn't good enough defensively to get the icetime to produce close to 50 points. He's also not as good as Hudler so that he can turn bit icetime and PP2 icetime into 50+ points.

But I won't be offering critique on other's lists without putting myself out there, so here's ten fearless forecasts from me

- Clarke MacArthur gets 25+ goals and 50 points on Buffalo's second line.
- David Backes surpasses 65 points as the Blues' 1A center.
- Toby Enström gets 50 points because John Anderson realizes that he should have him turning their PP into a beast all season long.
- Kyle Turris plays the majority of the year in the AHL. (again, this isn't really a fearless prediction to Phoenix fans, but rather all of the hypetastic fantasy GMs).
- Patrick Maroon wins a spot on the Flyers in training camp and works himself into the top six replacing the role Knuble played the last few years, getting as much as 45 points.
- Erik Johnson blows everyone away in a big comeback year, scoring 20+ goals and 50+ points.
- Alex Goligoski barely cracks 30 points getting third pairing and PP2 icetime.
- John Tavares proves that his skating is just too bad for the NHL and doesn't even get 50 points.
- Hell, why not swing for the fences... Joffrey Lupul clicks with Getzlaf and scores 40 goals.
- Everyone will, correctly, refer to Henrik Zetterberg as a center and not a leftwinger. And everyone will spell Brian Elliott's last name with two "t"s.

Sounds like fun. I am going for a Russian theme, some bolder then others:

1. Maxim Afinaganov signs in the NHL and is his teams second leading scorer.
2. Evgeni Nabokov is a Vezina candidate.
3. Nikata Filatov plays 75 games, averages over 15 minutes of ice time.
4. Simeon Varlamov doesn’t play in 40 games.
5. Alexander Ovechkin style of play finally catches up to him and he misses more then 20 games.
6. Sergei Gonchar leads defenceman in scoring.
7. Nikolai Khabibulin doesn’t top 18 wins.
8. A Russian leads the NHL in PIM (come on Evgeny Artyukhin, get those elbows out).
9. Alexander Frolov is a in the top twenty of points in the NHL.
10. Russians finish 1-2-3 in goal scoring.

This sounds like fun. Here's 10 fearless predictions from a penguins fan:

-Tyler Kennedy will score 20 goals.
-John Curry will get 10 starts, competing well with Johnson after Fleury goes down with another month + injury...
-Evgeni Malkin will score 50 goals, aided by Gonchar back to the point on the pp full-season.
-Kunitz will eclipse 100 PIM getting into scrums that Crosby starts.
-Kris Letang will score 16 goals, great G production from a D.
-Luca Caputi and Eric Tangradi will not combine for more games played than dark-horse-tweener Nick johnson.
-Both Letang and Goligoski hit the 45 point mark while pinching like banshees in Bylsma's system.
-Billy Guerin knocks in 30 goals one more time.
-Jordan Staal doesn't get to the 50 point mark in his 4th season.
-Malkin pots 4 shorties and 6 SHP's.
