Keeper League. Straight points.
Who would you take if you could have one of these guys. I am really looking for some different opinions and some feedback as to why you would take this guy over the others. Thankyou very much for taking the time to reply guys. Its much appreciated. I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Z..

Filatov for me - because I think he will put up more offense over time than the other two.

It depends on your timeline. For next year, it\'s Giroux for me. I know everyone is terrified of the Jackets and their system and how it will stifle Filatov\'s production. I\'m on record a few times as saying that Hitchcock will be looking for a new job within 2 years, and that will open the door for Filatov. Tavares is loaded with talent as everyone knows, but I\'m always leary of guys with questionable character.
So, basically, I would take Filatov if I\'m thinking longer term, I would take Giroux if I needed a depth guy to help me compete next year. JT would be my last choice. |

OMG !!! That\'s a good one !
I\'ll go like this Tavares Filatov Giroux ... and maybe Giroux in front of Filatov JUST because of Hitchcock ! Tavares : In a league of powerplay, I really think that Tavres is a no-brainer here. Filatov : ok, maybe I\'m bias (can we say that in english ?) cause I have him in my keeper, but I\'m VERY high on Filatov. This guy has something ... the scoring touch. Add him a little bulk in he will be something. Giroux : I like him but ... he won\'t be \"THE\" guy in Philly. The only reason I choose Filatov in front of him is for the upside. That\'s it !

I keep thinking about it and Im completely lost. If its split RW, LW, C then Id consider Giroux, otherwise you have to put him third because the other two simply have higher upside.
My issue, Im not enamored with Tavares and his enigmatic work ethic. Sometimes he shows more desire than anyone others (OHL playoffs come to mind) he can appear disinterested. Filatov, well Im just not a particular fan of his situation in Columbus. 100+ potential for both those guys but Im not a clear fan of either. I think 80 tops for Filatov in Columbus. For Tavares, Im quickly becoming a fan of Dobbers Kovalev comparison. Therefore I can see some 60 point seasons and some 90 point seasons. Giroux, I love this kid and he probably brings more to the table the more categories you bring in. Straight points he lies somewhere in the 70-80 point range with the odd jump above for me but I think hell be consistent. I have to rank them Filatov-Tavares-Giroux based on upside, but Im not all that happy about it.

Tavares - Work ethic questions go out the window and are understandable as this guy has outclassed the CHL since he was 15... it went to his head for a couple years but he did a lot to develop the rest of his game and showed some growth in the leadership area this year. Once he makes the jump to the NHL he\'ll have a new goal of success there...
Giroux - Safer pick than Filatov, he\'s on a great young philly team and will post some great numbers with very little pressure. Filatov - Talentwise should rank much higher than Giroux but too many questions... and I can\'t help but figure that this guy is a hitchcock year or two away from testing the KHL waters. Even if he doesn\'t we all know what that system is doing to offensive development of players and it\'s really important in those years that they are learning... which they aren\'t.

Remember Getzlaf? He went something like 19th overall in the 2003 draft, mostly because teams questioned his work ethic. I think he got bored with Junior, and the same could be said for Tavares.
Also, I\'m hesitant to believe Columbus will fire Hitch within the next year or two, and for that reason Filatov\'s ceiling is likely no more than 80 points over the next 3-5 years. More realistically? Probably 60-65 points will be his high. I can see the Flyers trading or not renewing contracts for guys like Knuble and Lupul. That would open up the opportunity for Giroux to come in and show his stuff. I predict that within 2-3 years he\'ll breach 80+ points, with 90 points a possibility. For these reasons: Tavares Giroux Filatov

Good thing Brassard got injured before he found out that Hitch wasn\'t going to allow him to get many more points.

I like Tavares too, but it depends on where he goes... If the off chance that Isles bypass and he goes to TB, he\'ll be choked behind Vinny, Marty and Stamkos, he\'ll be less productive in the short run until Vinny gets dealt. But if he goes to the Isles he\'s a sure lock to get optimal ice-time like Crosby/Ovechkin/Kane did when they entered the league.
As for Giroux vs Filatov... I still say they shaft Filatov for at least another season. They have Nash, Umberger, Modin, Huselius, Brassard, Voracek, Vermette ahead of him on the depth charts. That plus you throw in Torres and Chimera, so what do you have left a 10th roster spot? I think they learned the hard way with rushing Brule to the NHL, so they\'re gonna slow Filatov down a bit until Modin/Torres gets off the books in 2010. If you are thinking long run, he has potential to be very good. Giroux is pretty much a lock for the NHL next season, but it\'ll be third line duties. They can\'t move him up the depth charts unless they get rid of Lupul or Briere\'s salaries. But he also has the makings of being a superstar, but he\'ll be buried behind Mike Richards, Scott Hartnell, Briere for years to come.

I\'m confused how you can make such a statement considering Giroux played about half his shifts last year with either Gagne or Briere on his line. Is that \"buried\" ? In fact, the last 10 regular season games, and all of the playoffs, Giroux and Briere played together pretty much the whole time. Also, if you had seen the playoffs, you would have seen that Giroux was one of their best players, despite a shaky first game. The only way Claude doesn\'t get top 6 ice time is if he has a lousy camp. It\'s his spot to lose. |
