Default Is my Keeper Team too Young????

This year\'s draft is over and here is what my team now looks like. What do you guys think? We have 12 teams in this keeper league and need to dress 9F, 6D and 2G at all times. Scoring is points and +/- only and wins and shutouts for goalies. Do you guys think my team is too young or might I actually have a chance to win this year? I think long term I should do well, particularly at defense with Whitney, Weber and the two Johnsons as my keepers.

F- Iginla J (cgy)
F- Afinogen M (buf)

Default Re:Is my Keeper Team too Young????

One huge question here is how many players will you keep from year to year? 8 players, 14 players, pretty much all of your roster?

In my primary league, we keep mid-teens year to year (12 teams) and I draft guys like Eaves/Brule/Carter/Barker every year. Usually, if they\'re not producing 3-4 weeks in and it doesn\'t look like it\'s going to get better, I\'ll drop them for someone who is currently producing.

So that\'s really the question. If these are guys you can keep, then they have value. If you won\'t be keeping them due to keeper limitations then they probably have minimal value to you or anyone else.

I\'d give it a few games and think about that and you should be able to figure out what to do.

Good luck.

To answer your question, we can keep 6F, 3D, 1G and 3 other for a total of 13 keepers. At this point in time I guess my keepers would be as follows:

G: Miller and Bernier
D: Whitney, Weber, J. Johnson and E. Johnson
F: (7 out of these 10)Iginla, Cheechoo, Radulov, Parise, Backstrom, Nash, Perry, J. Carter, Afinogenov and Sakic

Their will be alot of tuff choices looming for the end of the year!!!

I guess my main question to everyone is do you think I can compete this year? I finished last place last year and made tremendous changes to built for the future. Have I gone overboard with youth?

133 views and only 3 replies (2 of which are me). I deeply respect the opinions of the people on this site, and just which I could get a few feedbacks. Do I have a chance this year or do I continue building for the future and in a few years I should be golden.

Thanks,

Sly

Quite young. Unless a few of those guys really break out this year, you won\'t contend, but you could be mid-pack. Next year you\'ll start contending, I would think. I\'d be careful about the goaltending situation in LA. It\'s volatile enough that they might even send Bernier down, leave Labarbera as back-up, and try and get a starter. I\'m optimistic that Bernier will stick, and even if he doesn\'t then he\'ll likely get some call-up time, and have a great shot next season. I might also try to upgrade your forwards a little bit, otherwise you should be able to almost stand pat.

If I was you I would trade Sakic now to someone who is contending that might need a centre. You should beable to get a high draft pick for him. If there are any other guys that are 32 or older you should also trade them now seeing that when your young guys start to produce like they should these players will be past their prime. Trade these older players now for prospects and draft picks and you will be laughing 4 years from now.

My team is extremely young, but I feel that young players benefit with new rules and have clearly dominated the ice even in their rookie years.

Kopitar, Malkin, Toews, Bergeron, Kane, Vlasic, B. Ryan...

But I do have an oldie in Jagr. haha.

Not too young at all.... although that might mean waiting an extra year or two before truly competing. BTW, if you\'re serious about building a dynasty, you ought not be protecting Sakic for much longer, either.

Sakic in purely on my team this year to help get points and then get cut. You see my league requires that everyone must cut one of your top 4 and one of your top 10 fantasy point producers (points and +/-). These cut players go to free agency and are auctioned off. This is why I\'m hoping that Sakic will produce well enough to make my top 4 so that I can cut him and not risk loosing one of my desired keepers.

Hello sly \'et al\'

I like your team a lot. Your forwards are young but have been in the league, mostly, for a number of years. Iginla is going to well with Keenan pushing him. Nash is due for a breakout. Cheechoo is awesome. You have a lot of great young players.

I don\'t know about the makeup of the other teams in your league but it would seem to me that you have a chance to contend.

I like what you have done with your L.A. goalie situation. You have protected yourself for now. Who knows how that situation will sort itself out. Bernier would appear to be the front runner currently.

On your farm I might drop Barker and go for another defenceman. He didn\'t make the team again and it isn\'t like this is his draft year.

I like your team.

My thoughts.
