please forgive my ignorance, once again, but it\'s my first year doing a yahoo pool (i\'ve only ever used officepools before) and i\'m a little confused as to how to start a bidding war, as some have suggested i do with sid the kid.
obviously, i\'d like to get as much bang for my buck for him, as this is a really deep 14 team keeper league with 30 roster spots each. i\'ve got a few offers already, nothing too noteworthy, in my eyes, so how do i parlay them off on one another? thanks guys!

Just send replies to each owner stating that other offers have been better. Then ask if they are prepared to go higher. Keep this process going and poof you have a bidding war.

thanks guys.
dobber, it\'s been suggested i do in my dynasty league due to the weakness of my wings, so i\'m looking to upgrade multiple positions at the same time, if i can, using the kid. fyi - my wings are: lw- semin, malone, clowe, eriksson rw- perry, zherdev, lupul, c.armstrong b- lapierre, koci, gamache i\'ve also got horton as a center, who i think should get rw eligibility. a couple of offers i\'ve got so far, without having started the \'bidding war\' yet. two that have caught my eye are: j.bernier/e.staal for crosby and the other p.bergeron, marian hossa, smyth, esposito, lehtonen for crosby, semin, fernandez. i\'m going to wait them out a little more and then email them back. Seeing as I believe that I was the one who suggested a bidding war might be interesting, I\'ll comment on the trade offers too. I don\'t like either of them. The reason I suggested it was so that you could get a couple top players at spots where you\'re weak.
E. Staal + J. Bernier: love both of these guys, but Staal still needs to prove that his 100 pt. season wasn\'t a one-time thing, and Bernier, while it looks good for him in LA, isn\'t the established top goalie you\'d be looking for. Staal is also a centre, so you\'re not really upgrading where you need to. Bergeron, etc.: Bergeron is sort of like Staal, but less. He\'s also stuck behind Savard on the depth chart. Hossa is Hossa. Smyth is a better intangible guy than fantasy point guy, and I think that he\'s a downgrade from Semin on the wing. Esposito is a boom or bust prospect which would be nice to have, but obviously not the main point of the trade. Lehtonen could be good, but his inconsistency makes him not much different than Fernandez in value. Net result is a serious downgrade at centre and LW, but you get Hossa with a prospect sweetener. Not terrible, but I\'m not sure if Hossa balances off the downgrades at other positions. If you took Semin/Smyth out of the deal and got a better goalie back I\'d think about it a bit more.

thanks again for the insight, guys.
chadosaur, i completely understood and agreed with your advice when you advised me to look into dealing crosby. and yeah, i haven\'t really had \'the\' offer yet. regarding, staal/bernier, the deal intrigued me, but i wasn\'t sold on it for the same reasons as you. you can\'t deal the best player in the league for a guy who may or may not become a franchise goalie and a guy trying to prove that his 100 pt season 2 years ago wasn\'t a fluke. same with the other deal, i wasn\'t thrilled about taking such a downgrade at center and hossa was the only piece that really made the deal worth considering. as for that guys tenders, they aren\'t anything to get overly excited about. he already put together a couple of offers with them in, but i told him i wasn\'t interested in them (hasek, osgood, bryz) another deal was pretty good, however it mainly strengthened my areas which were already strong, c and d. i\'ve emailed everyone back that made any offers, save for the bernier/staal one, because i was still mulling it over this morning, and told them that other offers were better, what i might be looking for from their teams and asked if they wanted to upgrade. the bergeron et al. guy already replied with a no. wait and see...worst comes to worst, i hang onto sid, which ain\'t so bad. again, thanks for all the help! The Staal/Bernier thing isn\'t even worth mulling over - we are talking about Crosby here with a 170 point upside. You will never gain his value out of those two guys no matter how well they play. Crosby is almost untradeable in any format because what you should reasonably expect for him is pretty rich for any team to consider. You need to be seeing at least one big name on the other side of the trade plus plus plus to be even thinking the deal is worth examining. Bide your time - as you suggest having Crosby to build around is not such a bad proposition. Although I grant you, it might be interesting to see how far other GM\'s will go to try and get him.

that\'s so true, shoeless. especially in a deep league like ours, whoever is willing to pay the price for crosby pretty much has to be willing to decimate his team in order to do so.
i should also say that when drafting my team, which is in another post in the keeper league section, i knew i probably wasn\'t going to win right away, and i\'m fine with that. i just hope that some of the young guys i did draft are able to live up to their potential!

If I was you I wouldnt even think about trading crosby. I would look into trading away everyone else and start re-building your team. You can get some pretty decent prospects and draft picks for proven players. You are obviously in a position where your team is going to be bottom 2 for a couple of years. So you need to trade whoever you can now that is over the age of 30 or just doesnt show to much potential for whatever you can. In about 3 years you will have an amazing team that you built around crosby. Don\'t trade him, you will be thank ful you didn\'t when the time comes for your team to explode.
