Default player comparisons

I am getting ready for a roto draft with fairly convention stats and wonder if you would mind giving me your opinion on the comparative values of these pairs.

Nagy vs Bertuzzi (not concerned about position)

EJ vs Murphy

T Ruutu vs Handzus

Thanks in advance!

Well let\'s see...

Bertuzzi/Nagy -- Tough call here as I can see both of them bouncing back from off year(s). Bertuzzi\'s role on the Ducks should be more significant, I think, than Nagy\'s on the Kings and who that favors is difficult to call. I\'ll go ahead and say I prefer Bertuzzi this season, bit it wouldn\'t surprise me if Nagy actually outproduced the Anaheim winger.

E. Johnson/Murphy - Again, a pretty tough one to rate. Murphy showed me a lot today with his play against the Hawks and assuming he gets a full shot to play on the 1st PP unit along with a reg shift at even strength, I think he is going to have a surprisingly good season. EJ is going to be one hell of a player in the NHL but I don\'t see a Phaneuf-like first season from him this year. He will put up decent numbers but in the end I would go with Murphy.

Ruutu/Handzus - If you could guarantee me that Ruutu would play 60+ games, I would say he was the guy, and fairly easily. However, he has done nothing but get injured since he first put on a Hawks\' sweater so expecting him to play even 3/4 of their games is a lot to ask. Handzus looked decent before he blew his knee out early last season playing for the Hawks. He is now in a fairly crowded offensive situation, however, in LA and that could negatively effect his production. I guess on this one I would say Ruutu is the pick, but I would have others in mind once your draft is over and as the season goes on in case (or should I say when) Ruutu goes down.

Thanks Lamplighter

I just realized that Bert might go under the radar in my league and I might pick him up later than I thought so might get both him and Nagy.

This would obviate the Ruutu/Handzus question as he would get their slot.

I also think EJ and Murph are going to end up on FA to start the season so I am going with Murph as he seems to be more \"now\". I think EJ will float anyway in my league - so if things turn - I can likely grab him easily.

Cheers buddy
