Default EJ, Murphy or Kuba

In a non-keeper of course (as this questions would be Erik Johnson for sure in a keeper), who do you think would do better this year between these three players: Cory Murphy (FLA), Erik Johnson (STL) and Filip Kuba (Tampa) (taking in consideration that Boyle will be out for the next two months)

Our league scoring is as follows: G (2), A (1), +/- (1), PIM (0.25), PPP (2), SHP (3)

Thanks in advance for your quick opinion as I need to act fast to pick up one of these guys through waivers.

Sly

EJ is an autopick in a one year league when I am looking for that last D man that will grab me some decent points. Kuba is not a PIM guy but can score - likely he will man point on the powerplay with Richards with Danny out - so he might be a winner pick. Murph will do fine but Bouwmeester is the man in Panthertown. I just want to own EJ in case he does a rookie year take-off of Phaneuf.

I agree that E. Johnson could come up big with the Blues this year as they really don\'t have the kind of talent at defense which should hold down the youngster\'s opportunity. With that said, most players take awhile to adjust to the speed/talent at the NHL level so having a Phaneuf-like first season is hardly guaranteed.

Kuba, in my opinion, is going to have a solid year for the Lightning, and that should be all but guaranteed now with Boyle down for a month plus. He isn\'t going to be a huge force but he is steady and solid.

I suppose if you want to go with the higher upside guy who has the chance of struggling a bit, I would go with EJ. If I wanted a more sure thing, for this season only, I would take a flyer on Kuba.

I like EJ in this one because of the +/- stat. TB is not a defensive team so Kuba may get PP time, but what will his +/- look like.

St. Louis has played some brilliant D under A. Murray and their D depth is good so EJ should be paired with quality linemates who all employ a solid D system. That coupled with his offensive potential [I realize this has yet to be tested at the NHL level] make him worth the pick imo.

C. Murphy should still be behind Bouwmeester.

TO be honest, given murphy\'s offensive flair, he might be a very interesting pick here. It is true that Bouwmeester will be the MAN, but Murphy will be the OFFENSIVE man. They will BOTH most likely be on the pp. That being said, EJ could have a big year on the Blues. Either way IMO it is win/win, but i personally would gamble on murphy, since its only 1 year.

I like Murphy\'s chances...and not just because he notched 3 helper today. I think he has the most offensive flair of the bunch. EJ will be solid, and will help a lot more in PIMs than Murphy. I think it\'s a toss up between their +/-. I\'m not high on Kuba this year...poor PIMs, poor +/-.

Kuba definitely does not have the upside of the other two guys but I have to believe he is the \"safer\" pick at this point. With that said, if someone can afford to take a bit of a risk, either Johnson or Murphy have the higher upside and many (like Dobber) think that Murphy could have a real nice season with the Panthers.
