I\'m in the first year of a new keeper league.
Well, not really a true \"keeper\" league in my eyes, because you only keep 6 players, and a max of 1 goaltender. You\'ll see how that comes into play later. Only 12 teams. H2H Points, Weekly Lineup Changes Start 9F / 6 D / 2 G Fairly Short Bench - 5 Reserves + 1 IR Goals are 3 pts, assists 2. Def goals are 2, assists 1 PIMs are not bad things, neither are +/- Team B\'s owner put Iginla on the block and I emailed him saying I\'d be willing to discuss something centering around Iginla for Turco (I want to keep Lehtonen), and that I would want a goaltender back (Budaj or Kolzig) and could send back a forward to even it out, and for him to make me an offer to start with. So he comes back with an offer of Iginla and Afinigenov for Ovechkin. I don\'t mind the offer necessarily, but, to put it nicely, he seems either kind of new-ish at the fantasy thing or way too jumpy. I know he\'s berated a couple of people on the message boards for offers that he deemed \"not enough\" for some of his assets. My team is Team A and his is Team B Team A: F - Ovechkin,Hossa,Gaborik,Havlat,Gomez,Gionta,Arnott Knuble,Stillman,Connolly,Mueller,Little D - T Kaberle, Markov, M-A Bergeron, Ballard, Coburn, Kronwall G - Lehtonen, Turco, Khabibulin Team B: F - Iginla,Jokinen,Afinigenov,Stastny,Semin,Hejduk,Doa n Wellwood,Stumpel,Kane,Toews,Darcy Tucker D - Bouwmeester,Seabrook,Leopold,Kalinin,Schubert,Whit e G - Budaj, Kolzig, Theodore My main thing with it is I don\'t think it helps me that much in the short-term and with only 6 keepers I don\'t think it helps me any in the long-run. I think Ovechkin is more valuable than either Iginla or Afinigenov. So it\'s really this, imo: Ovechkin/Hossa/Gaborik/Havlat/Kaberle/Lehtonen vs Hossa/Iginla/Gaborik/Afinigenov/Kaberle/Lehtonen Also, with 9 starting forwards per week I think the impact of any one is kind of muted unless we\'re talking Crosby. I think this is either slight overpayment from him or a very savvy move. I tend to think the former, but I still don\'t think I\'m biting. If we had a couple of more keeper spots (10-ish) and I could either get him to change Afino for Jokinen or to throw in Jay-Bo it might be a thought. But I think I\'m going to pass. Am I right? Wrong? Thoughts? Thanks Post edited by: blindedbyfear, at: 2007/09/19 11:14 |

In terms of your keeper assessment you are right on themoney.. but the season is long and an asset like JBo or Afinogenov upgrade could help. I would go back and ask for JBo too and then see what assets you can move come seasons end to help improve your keeper situation because in all likelyhood, your roster will change quite a bit in the next 6 months.

I don\'t think it is an overpay as he gets a roster spot to play with to compensate and you need to dump someone.
If Afinogenov wasn\'t a bandaid boy I might consider it but the risk is not worth it in my mind - like you say you really don\'t gain in the keeper department and perhaps the production value swings your way but I want to be the guy holding Ovechkin the season he posts 65 or 70 goals - folks will say it will never happen - just watch! I think I would walk on this one - Iggie would be nice to have but not with Ovechkin in the deal.

There\'s few players I\'d move Ovechkin for, and none of them are coming to you in this deal. If he\'s throwing a Crosby or a Luongo your way, that\'s one thing.
In the future I think Ovechkin will only have Crosby to answer to in terms of production. Guys like Iginla are really nice, but there\'s a handful of 90 point forwards available, compared to the number of guys that potted 100+ points rookie year.

I personally wouldn\'t trade Ovechkin. I have a man-crush on that goofy Russian and would give up just about anything to get him on my team. He plays the most hard to draft position (LW) and just oozes talent... wait til he has linemates. Keep him and thank this forum in 2 years when he single handedly keeps you in contention every year.
Quality over quantity my man... 1 guy producing 110 points is better than 2 producing 75-80 when protection lists come due. Long term you have to keep AO.
