I am having discussions with another GM who is after Fluery in a keeper league that puts a pretty big emphasis on goalie stats AND goal scoring. He offered me Dipietro + Toews for Fleury + Jordan Staal. I replied saying that I think I could get more for Fluery and that his value is at a high because of the expectations in Pitts (I may just put him on the block to see what I can fetch for him). He reminded me that Dipietro is probably the better skilled goalie whose GAA and save % may be better with less wins, but that I would win the Toews/Staal portion of the deal.
I countered with saying the Dipietro will have to play the Pens, Rangers, and Flyers a total of 24 times this year and probably 18 or more for the next few years. Lots of losses. The Isle suck and there seems to be no end in sight for their futility. Who do you think wins out? I believe that I wont be making my team better. Even having Staal as 3rd on the Pitts depth chart and Toews 1st in Chicago doesnt necessarily mean that Toews will outscore Staal. If Jordan gets placed on Malkins wing, 40 goals is not out of the question. ?? Thanks

I don\'t think I\'d move Fleury and Staal for that package. It\'s funny because he\'s saying to you \"Fleury\'s not that much better than DiPietro just because he\'s on the Pens\" when in actuality he wants Fleury because he\'s on the Pens.
If you had a need for Toews, and you also had another stud goaltender, then Fleury alone for DiPietro and Toews might be closer, imo. Post edited by: blindedbyfear, at: 2007/09/19 11:39 |

I\'d stay away from this one also. I don\'t see it helping you. J. Staal and J. Toews might actually wind up with similar upsides in the NHL and Staal is a year ahead of Toews and playing on the much superior team [albeit on the 3rd line].
Your opponent is looking to stack Pens on his fantasy team [you\'re in the drivers seat here...you could do much better if you want].

I can\'t see this being right for you. Toews is projected to be a sure thing but he hasn\'t done anything yet. Staal scored 29 as a rookie with 9 short handed points. Fleury has been great on a less than defensively gifted team - they will get better and so will Fleury\'s numbers. Sit tight and less the other guy loads up the Brink\'s truck for you.
I like the Fleury for Dipietro and Toews counter idea. Talk about making a statement.
