Last weekend was my first live draft for a keeper league. I\'m not feeling so good about my draft, so I was just looking for any help on what I should get done.
The league is a mostly points league, with goaltending having quite a bit of weight. We will have seven keepers after this season. We needed 3 LW, 4 C, 3 RW, and 4 D. Then goaltenders had to have five games played combined to count. LW 1. Andrew Brunette (COL) 2. Ladislav Nagy (LA) 3. Sergei Samsonov (CHI) --------------------- 4. Taylor Pyatt (VAN) C 1. Joe Sakic (COL) 2. Patrick Marleau (SJ) 3. Brad Richards (TB) 4. Vaclav Prospal (CLS) --------------------- 5. Patrick O\'Sullivan (LA) RW 1. Jaromir Jagr (NYR) 2. Ales Hemsky (EDM) 3. Joffrey Lupul (PHI) ---------------------- 4. Patrick Kane (CHI) D 1. Tom Preissing (LA) 2. Braydon Coburn (PHI) 3. Brad Stuart (LA) 4. Cam Barker (CHI) ----------------------- 5. Kris Letang (PIT) 6. Marc Staal (NYR) G 1. Mikka Kipprusoff (CGY) 2. Henrik Lundqvist (NYR) ----------------------- 3. Christobal Huet (MON)

Your Centers and Goaltending are definate strong points. Your D is awful and your LW not much better. I suggest moving one of your centers for a LW and then moving Kipper or Lundquist for a half decent goalie like Dipietro or Toskala and an upgrade on D.

You are indeed thin on the wings, especially the left one. But everybody know how hard good left wingers are to get by.
You have great goaltending though, a good center line and 2 future studs on your blueline with Letang and Barker. How deep is your league? I\'m asking because without knowing other teams roster I don\'t think you have what it takes to win this year. If it\'s the case I\'d try to deal Jagr and/or Sakic to a contender and build for the future with the return you\'ll get. |

The league is twelve teams deep.
When I\'m drafting Samsonov and Nagy and Brunette, it is well into the over 100+ overall pick. I traded a lot of my early picks to get Kipper because of how much the league weighted in on goaltending. With only five games per week we need to fill, do you think I can skid by with trading Huet, with Kipper and Lund already?

I don\'t think you won\'t get much for him though unless somebody is very thin in the nets. Is Legace available? I\'m asking because he tends to be underrated IMO. Give it the first couple of months of the season. If by December you don\'t feel you have the team to win it, pull the pin and play for next year. You have a great start for next year and guys like Sakic and Jagr could get you some gold for next year. |

Your goalie situation is fantastic, centers are also good, left wings are horrible though.
Few suggestions I have for you, since its a keeper league Jagr and Sakic must be traded but not now, when thei value is high during the season. I suggest you go get a guy like Zetterberg though, his value isnt as high as it should be so get him now while you can.

Hello MR \'et al\'
Welcome. I don\'t think your team is as bad as some have commented. Don\'t panic. Give it some time. Your goaltending is excellent. Keep them all, for now. Depending on whether Barker makes the team, or not, you might consider moving Letang up and moving either Coburn or Barker down. I like Nagy in L.A. You might see Samsonov do really well in Chicago. Savard will let him run. You need a couple of your left wingers to have a good year. It isn\'t like they don\'t have the potential. See how it goes. My thoughts. |

I agree with Hockeylifer. You have very good goaltending. Your LW while not big names should do reasonably well (2 of them on new teams). I would wait and then maybe trade a liitle \"D\" for a LW.

I might look at moving Marc Staal for a winger. Staal will be good, but never a particularly offensive d-man. I\'d also suggest that Prospal might be excellent trade bait later on in the season. If he goes true to his up-and-down pattern, this should be an up year, in which case you may be able to get good value for him later on.
As for goaltending, you\'re in great shape, but I might consider a downgrade to help you at wing or D. Consider moving one of Kipper or Lundy for a stud young forward or d-man with something else thrown in. Either one of those 2 are good enough to be the #1 on any team, except for Luongo or Brodeur owners, so other managers should be willing to give up something nice. Whatever you get as a throw-in on the deal might be just what you need...a sleeper goalie could pay dividends, or a high draft pick would help you build next off-season.
