I started a keeper league this year with a $65 million salary cap. An issue that has come up with is how to treat suspended players (ie.Niedermayer).
From what I understand the way it works in the NHL is that if a player is suspended he does not count under the cap and once he comes back his salary is prorated for the period he plays. From a fantasy hockey standpoint this seems to be a nightmare to administer. Anyone have any suggestions about how they would handle this. |

How are long-term injuries treated? I think it should be the same way. If it\'s too harsh for the current owner...than he should drop him and lose him for nothing. It\'s not like Niedermayer caught anyone off guard last week...

It seems to me that when his salary doesn\'t count against the cap in real life while he is suspended - it shouldn\'t in fantasy hockey. We are attempting to simulate to the extent we can the NHL here and this seems like an easy call to make. You won\'t know the portion of Neids cap hit until he returns - I guess it is up to the team who has him to ensure they can take the hit when he returns.

We make him stay on the active roster or he must be waived.

Dobber is right... Save yourself the headaches. If he is kept by a GM in your pool, he should take the cap hit. It is his option to take that hit if he thinks it will pay off in January. If you make an exception here, it may set a dangerous precedent.
