Oh my it does pay to dig - Crosby is a cap hit of 850,000 this year so his cost per point is $6296. I thought he was into his contract extension already.
Still messing with this - got a little more complicated than I envisioned - so what else is new huh!

If you can get a 100+ point player go for it. I think it helps your team in the long run. You do have to be careful not to spend all of you money before the draft is over but you don\'t want to spend to little either.
As for drafting D I always wait a few rounds. For example last year we had 18 rounds and I didn\'t pick up a D until round 5. I always like having a C, LW, RW, G and a second G or forward depending on how everyone is drafting. Then I go for a D.

I am amending the list I had here before - I missed a lot of cap hits because I was drawing from this years salary column instead - this list is now corrected

Isn\'t Vanek\'s cap hit only just over 7 million? That would make his salary a bit better off.

Yeah i knew I had a couple of them wrong the cap hit and 07/08 columns are beside each other and I did grab the wrong number a couple of times - thanks buddy Vanek;s is corrected in the post now - will check the others.
I guess I was more interested at this moment in seeing if this would be a useful list for this particular league or similar leagues that use the cap hit. Post edited by: Shoeless, at: 2007/09/11 22:10

I have been wanting to put together a list like this as I think it would be really helpful for drafting in a keeper league.
But I\'ve never gotten around to it. I am certain something like this would be really helpful. |

Well any list like this would be easy to do if we had a database with all the players in it and values for several key factors. We could then generate reports with the information listed that we thought were important to our particular league.
I think a pre-draft report for this particular league would be simple - call for players ranked by projected points, with their salary cap hit and the cost per point (essentially a bang for your buck indicator). Probably call for the top 200 forwards in one report. The top 80 D guys in another report and perhaps an integrated report of the two. Frankly if Dobber put together such a database I would pay some to just be able to put in a report request for the factors I wanted in the report - he could run the report and send it to me or it could be automated - pay up front - put in the report parameters and hit request -10 seconds later - Bob\'s your uncle. If I am in 3 very different kinds of leagues and looking for different sets of information on players - it would be wonderful to be able to buy that without having to maintain or develop my own system. My time is worth more than the $3.00 to $5.00 it would cost to buy each report I wanted.

In a salary cap league, it all boils down to managing your money rather than getting the highest scorer. shoeless has the right idea in determining relative value based on things like games played, pts per game, etc. etc.

Chuckles
I edited my post with the players list in it - I caught alot of errors in my list as I didn\'t grab the right numbers many times - Ovie, Crosby and Malkin are still very good buys for the money but not so dramatically ahead of the field anymore. I added another 20 players to the list - now up to 54 - still think to use this approach the first 200 skaters in order of points would be a good idea and about 80-100 D guys. This list however does highlight the really good deals - Stastny, Kopitar are two that are real obvious. Here is a list of the top 20 projected D scorers (Dobber\'s projections) Defense Player- Points- Cap hit- Cost per point Gonchar- 72- 5,000,000- 69,444 Whitney- 71- 4,000,000- 56,338 Kaberle- 67- 4,250,000- 63,433 Lidstrom- 65- 7,600,000- 116,923 McCabe- 60- 5,750,000- 95,833 Boyle- 59- 3,333,000- 56,492 Pronger- 58- 6,250,000- 107,759 Visnovsky- 57- 1,824,000- 32,000 Phaneuf- 55- 785,000- 14,273 Zubov- 55- 4,000,000- 72,727 Pitkanen- 55- 2,400,000- 43,636 MA Bergeron- 55- 1,064,000- 19,345 Timmonen- 54- 6,333,000- 117,278 Souray- 53- 5,400,000- 101,887 A.
