of that list harding might be worth a go...also alot of people are forecasting that rask will be playing regularly by the end of the year....I would not pick up cloutier if my life depended on it....in my opinion he\'s never been a good goalie....ie the nicklas lidstrom goal from centre ice, last year, etc....go for someone else!

i agree harding is a great option , as is rask as he might have an outside chance of some decent playing time.smith could be a sleeper as turco only needs to slip up and let smith have a shot , he\'s shown he can put up great #\'s.

Of your list, I like Harding, Halak and Smith. I would not have Cloutier on my team ever.

I\'m a Habs fan, so somewhat biased, but I can see Halak nearly splitting the games with Huet, and posting some decent numbers for a fantasy team that already has one good starting goalie.

Pssst Brian - Cloutier is the one - Cinderella story going down with him this year - think about it - you buy him for a nickel and he does something - the guys in your league will be afraid of you forever. They will call you the Wizard.

Here are the things Cloutier has going for him - he is number 1 on the depth chart - the D in LA seems to have gotten significantly pumped over the off season - they will play in the offensive zone alot with that front end, you have little money to spend and he will be cheap.

Yeah yeah everyone here says he sucks. But I know this - arm chair GM\'s simply do not have enough inside information and when a building team like LA - pays good money for a guy and when the guy is still considered a starter I think there is reason to believe he has more merit than we are crediting him with. Something just isn\'t adding up here - and frankly from the list of guys you can afford and for 1 year and with a team like LA - I think I would \"take a flyer\" or more appropriately \"take a king\". Halak is good but not the starter. Several others on your list depend on a guy stumbling to get their shot - Cloutier has a job to lose. Most believe he will and quickly - I am not so sure about that.

bottomline: cloutier is being paid to start in LA, not warm the bench. he IS the LA starter until he loses that job. labarbra is really not a grat starter either, so i dont see him in a position of huge risk. hes got something to prove and i think, for what you\'re paying, thats worth the gamble. go with cloutier and if he succeeds and starts piling up points, then you can pat yourself on the shoulder. if not, then you lose a backup goalie in halak...by the time hes ready, so will price and we all know there wont be much competition. go with cloutier, hes the starter for the LA kings until further notice.

Always try to be nice but...

Sounds like some of these guys are your competition BrianSTC. Either that or guys like Shoeless are clueless.

Look at the stats. Cloutier finished 79th in save percentage last year. In a 30 team league that is beyond brutal, that is plain sick.

Also Cloutier\'s career save percentage is below 900%. The decision is yours my friend, but Cloutier couldn\'t stop shots taken from pee-wee\'s. The only reason he is even there is because he is Crawford\'s boy toy.

To take him because he is a starter with LA is not a wise move either. My money says he won\'t be LA\'s starter by November.

Well I\'m not his competition so I guess the latter applies.

Didn\'t mean to offend Shoeless. Just explain your thought on recommending a goalie with just poor stats last year and during his entire career.

Hey Coldsquad

I am the last guy in the world you need to worry about offending - I just don\'t go there. So be assured, no offense taken. We post what we think here and if we play nice all the time I think we stand a chance of missing some very valuable input or insights.

I posted what I thought. I could be all wet - won\'t be the first time.

I just think on balance Cloutier is not an unreasonable shot to take given Brian\'s situation. Would I draft Cloutier under normal circumstances? Not a chance. He can\'t afford a good starter. Harding is playing behind a guy who had the best save percentage in the league from February on last year - .948 or some such number - Harding is a backup in Minnie in my mind. Halak had some awesome games when he came in when Huet got injured but he also imploded a couple of times and Huet is the starter in Montreal and healthy he is unlikely to be anything else. Turco stood on his head in the play-offs last year and season after season puts up good numbers - Smith is a back-up there.

Clout for all he gets pissed on, has in fact posted several seasons with reasonable quality - he is the starter until it\'s indicated otherwise - he played injured and on crap teams over the last couple of years. The team in front of him this year is much improved. It\'s a gamble but one that could turn out all right - the gamble just is not that great because the alternatives don\'t exactly jump out and scream - \"hey go this way.\" Would Brian be satisfied if Clout had a season comparable to ones he had in Vancouver? I suspect for the price he would be ecstatic. Will it happen? I dunno and likely the odds are against it - but is it possble? I say yes it is.

shrug
