Default Re:SID The KID vs The GREAT ONE

hello,

Gretzky revolutionised the sport and redefine hockey and put it on the map.
For me he is the great one followed very closed by Super Mario Le Magnifique, and then Boddy Orr and Maurice Richard and St Patrick Roy.

Those guys are in My Top 5.

Personnaly i dont think he will beat Greztky in points. Yes he will beat Lemieux if he dosent get injured but will he be as Magnifique or super im not convince about that yet. I don\'t think he will ever have the full credit he deserves but yes i think he will be great but not as the great one.

he is sid the kid and he will always be seen as the kid.

For me he\'s the kid that saved hockey.

This is my opinion

Thanks
MDM

Couple things that could have a big impact on all the foregoing thoughts..will the cap grow significantly? If it does then its not as big a stretch to see a team remain intact to a higher degree than now. Ergo more talent continuity for Sid.
Will the league continue to press for changes that will increase scoring? Like the net changes that I think they will mandate after this season. Goalies now are coming up at 6\' 3\" and taller with giant wingspans and you can\'t see much net. I believe they will keep on that path.
These things will have quite an impact on scoring obviously and benefit Sid\'s ability to pile up points.
Lastly what would you as a player be willing to do to stay on a team like this one is projected to be. Can you say at least short term Dynasty. If the things I mention fall into place this could be the 1st team to go back to back and possibly beyond that in a long time.
Yeah I think the players will gladly sacrifice some $ to keep it together as long as they can.
Time will tell and it will be interesting to see the way Sid\'s career pans out.

I think it\'s too early for a fair comparison to be made, however that won\'t stop me from adding my two cents. I think Gretzky is, and will always be, the best hockey player. Sidney\'s good, and he has done wonders for the league which was in desparate need of a household name everyone can relate to, but I don\'t see him distancing himself from the rest the way Gretzky did. I may eat these words in a few years, but that\'s my opinion. As for Lemieux, sure he had health issues, but I think some of those could have been prevented with better training in his early years, indicating to me that he just didn\'t have the same drive that Gretzky had and it is that drive that separates the two. Gretzky was always the best, but he continued to push himself to improve or at least maintain in his level of play in his later years whereas Lemieux seems to have had the talent from the outset, but felt he could get by on talent alone.
