Default SID The KID vs The GREAT ONE

Will SID the KID be greater than the GREAT ONE?

Curious to what you people out there think?

Too early to tell of course, but Gretzky is sort of a once in a lifetime sort of player. I\'m not dead (or really old) yet so I figure we have some time until the next one comes along.

Its impossible to compare. They play(ed) in two different versions of the game. That being said, I feel that Crosby is an amazing player and will do great things, he might get close to Gretzky, but its too early to tell

nope not a chance. with the way the game is played today there will come a time when some knob decides that he\'s gonna slow the kid down and then we\'ll be seeing the same thing happen to him that happens to most of the games elite, a cheap shot. of course the guy who does it will say he didn\'t mean to catch him with his elbow he was just bent to low and i\'m 6\'5 so it\'s gonna happen. when in reality the league is full of guys who could care less about wether or not they hurt another player. until they take this dam instigator rule out and let the players police themselves like in the good days there will always be the worry that someone will shorten a players career thru nasty play. only a matter of time before the kid gets the bullseye put on him to. laraque can\'t follow him around the ice all game and by the time he gets on the ice it will be to late.

87Flyer I couldn\'t agree more. Wayne was unique in that his back injuries came later in his career. I am of the opinion that Lemieux could have been better but his health held him up. Don\'t get me wrong, I think Wayne is the KING (bad pun sorry) but he also was lucky health wise. Crosby, I hope he does well. The game needs him to, but better than Gretzky, I don\'t think so.

Sid\'s got mad skills, there\'s no denying that, but he\'s got to have a career b/f this comparison can be made. I think he\'s got a shot at approaching the Great One\'s stats, but after watching Lemieux\'s career in the \'Burgh I have to agree with 87Flyer and beaker in that I fear some schmuck will try to prevent Sid from seeing a full career, ala and Adam Graves double fisted baseball swing to the wrist or something.

What\'s going to be very fun (hopefully) is revisiting this topic in 10 years.

gretzky had the luxury (as judged by today\'s standards) of a pretty constant core of talented teammates. in the salary-cap age, it will be impossible for crosby to create a rapport over years, as gretzky did with many players in edmonton. as soon as crosby elevates the stats of his fellow players, they will become far too valuable to either (a)not trade away, or (b) pay, with cap restraint. just for the record, i think lemieux was a better player than gretzky, and neither of them were as good as number 4.
