Default Televised Hockey Suxxx!!!111!!!!1!1

Dobber hit the top shelf, glove side with his comments on the canada-russia sportscast quality. i\'m going to go a couple steps further, and opine that ALL hockey telecasts are pure CRAP!
i am a hockey nut. i\'ve been playing for 32 years. my 2 sons both play. my family has 5 season seats at the acc in toronto. i\'ve been a subscriber to nhl center ice for 6 years. i am so sick of watching hockey on tv. inch:
the next time you watch a game, pay close attention to how many players are actually on your screen at one time. if it ever is more than 4 (or sometimes 5), consider yourself lucky. even when there is a powerplay, the tv powers that be won\'t show you (most of the time) the entire zone; if the defence has the puck at the blueline, you won\'t see the net. if the play is behind the net, you will not be privileged to see the defence.
the next time a defenceman starts to skate from behind his own blueline looking up ice to make a play, or whatever, notice how many times the camera ZOOMS IN on him. also, notice how often the camera ZOOMS IN on a guy just skating with the puck! this is not hockey!
hockey is what i consider (of course, arguably) the best team sport. as far as i am concerned, there is pretty much NEVER a reason to ZOOM IN on anyone while play is going on. how many times have you watched a game, and there of course is a close up of 2 or 3 guys in the corner, then the puckpossessor seemingly blindly passes it out front of the net and you say to yourself: \"Where did he come from???\" well if they\'d show more of the actual teams in this team sport, we\'d all know!
a few years ago, during the nj/ana final, don cherry does a replay showing the nj trap in action. he says look at this! look at that! these guys are friggin great at what they are doing! i said, yes! but we never get to see it because if a player doesn\'t have the puck, he probably ain\'t on tv!
the commentators: i can\'t stand being yelled at constantly. but it seems that someone somewhere has decided that a good colour man has to be constantly yelling angrily as though he were the coach of the team. one time i listened to cuthbert and healy drone on about some stupid story, while the action is happening, for 2 straight minutes. from the time the puck was dropped until the time there was a whistle never once did either mention who had the puck, or what was going on! ridiculous. don\'t even ask me about pierre (i should be the best coach in nhl history) maguire!
I AM SO SICK OF HOCKEY TELECASTS!!!!!

bob cole is the worst announcer in the history of television.

i love listening to the games on the radio, particularly Carolina with Chuck Kaiton, and the Anaheim broadcasts.

Thanks Chuckles!

PS - in the super series, I think Mcguire must be on some downers...because he\'s mumbling and hardly getting excited at all. Not like him - I think he may have had orders from above (due to complaints)!

I love the camera work CBC provides for NHL games.

I thought perhaps he was either sick or really feeling the effects of the time change or something. He really sounded out of it, particularly the first game.

No offense to all the canadians here complaining about hockey broadcasts, but I\'d love to have a broadcast that just \"switches cameras too much\" or has a \"bad announcer.\" You guys above the border are kind of spoiled and I don\'t really feel too bad for you.

I have to deal with not seeing hockey hardly at all on t.v.

No hockey (or hardly any hockey) is worse than just bad angles and commentating. You want to know the last time i saw a super series game on cable here in the u.s.? never. The u.s. sports networks would rather show a little league baseball game against japan on t.v. than hockey.

All sports (in my humble opinion) change angles to try to get you \"closer to the action,\" not just hockey... so just live with it and tell yourself, hey, I\'m watching hockey on t.v. in august. I\'m pretty lucky. Those silly americans down south have nothing to watch right now but pansies playing baseball.

are you not able to get the center ice package? surely you guys have easier access to far-flung regional broadcasts via satellite?
you may be right, perhaps we are spoiled. but i tell you what: the best way to get people to watch a game that is great live, on tv, is to mimic as best you can what it means to be at the game. hockey is a constantly flowing, moving, elegant thing to watch when you are actually there. every player on the ice is continually reacting to what is happening. unfortunately, the tv does not show this. when (and this happens ALL the time) a defenceman stands behind his net, for a line change or waiting to begin a powerplay breakout, why would anyone think i want to see ONLY HIM?
it\'s a thing of beauty to watch the play evolve and everyone doing what they are supposed to be doing without the puck. spoiled or not, there\'s probably not much we can do about it...

center ice is only offered on digital cable in my area, but digital cable\'s not available right now in my area...

Direct tv and most satalite companies that I know of only carry baseball (our national pasttime  ), basketball, and football...

Nothing that I know of shows games outside the u.s. (tournaments) or pre-nhl guys (u-18 and such). You may get the occassional local access college game if you live in boston, massachusettes or minnesota or michigan...

Hell... we don\'t even see hockey games during the olympics really... they show figure skating and snow boarding and skiing like we care about those events.

So i\'m kind of stuck waiting for versus to get better... and in the meantime, trying to show canadians how lucky they really are... I can turn of the t.v. and see \"laguna beach\" and other crappy \"reality\" shows at any point in the day, but i can\'t reliably watch hockey until april.

I do agree, though that watching the defender standing behind the net is atrocious. I actually enjoy when they switch to the long camera (from the upper deck) behind the net (and the defender) when the defender\'s standing there... it shows the ice and all the other players very nicely.

You can get NHL centre ice on The Dish Network, and many many Fox Sports affiliates broadcast hockey in the US, which are easy to pick up on FTA satellite. You can also follow the super series being broadcast digitally on TSN.ca. And if you really wanted Canadian TV in it\'s entirety, you can easily clone a dish network package into a bell expressvu receiver. But you don\'t need to, since you can get Centre Ice on American satellite.

XM Satellite radio also broadcast the entire Junior championships this year.
