i\'d probably keep:

whitney, bieksa, rozsival, mara, zidlicky, timmonen, van ryn.

I say rozsival and mara, because the rangers offense should be sick for a couple of years at least. zidlicky i think will bounce back with timmonen gone. Timmonen\'s the guy in phili, and van ryn will still probably get 35 points or more despite murphy coming to town and he costs a doller to keep.

Save money on him and use it elsewhere on forwards. ohlund and schnieder may do better, but not by much. schneider\'s too damn expensive for what could end up being a defender who\'s 4th on the depth chart... plus he\'s ancient.

if scott DOES retire, would you keep schnieder?

i don\'t have to keep seven...that is the max. eg, could keep six and buy one at the auction.

with the seven you suggest...there appears to be plenty of points, enough pms...( can always add pm\'s later in the year/ points are much harder to find ). what do you think those seven earn in total plus/minus?

With the top D-men going for $25-30, all the guys you\'ve listed have good to great value. I like the value for Timonen and Zidlicky has a decent chance to rebound with Timonen in Philly. Ohlund is great value for $5 and usually adds 80 pen mins. Van Ryn for $1? He\'ll outperform that for sure.

The only one I\'m not sure on is Mara. If you think he\'ll rebound and play on the PP, then he\'ll likely be full value for his $8. I\'m not as confident about him rebounding as some are.

I\'m with the Comish here that all those guys present good value for the money. I\'m not as quick to write off Schneider as Lanky is (although Lanky does make important points about him) - Schneider with or without Neids retiring will grab his share of points and perhaps more importantly for you do quite well in the +/- department - old he is but dead he is not. However, as suggested perhaps you could spend the money more wisely elsewhere.

If you go with 7, I like:

Timmonen
Zidlicky
Roszival
Mara
Schneider
Van Ryn

If you go with 6 then the debate for me would centre around Schneider and Van Ryn - based on what cats you need to secure mubers in. It is not all about the money here.
