Default Fleury/Lehtonen/Emery for who?

I\'m in a keeper league, all players kept year after year, all stats covered. I\'m pretty happy with my goalie selection here, Fleury, Lehtonen, and Emery. So happy in fact that I think I\'d like to trade one of them away. I wonder which goalie you think would be the best to trade, and which package should I make an offer for
1) Carey Price and a high first round pick next year
2) Getzlaf or Perry or Kopitar?

Thanks!

Trade Lehtonen for sure. Fleury\'s the obvious choice to keep, because he\'s a pen. I\'d keep Emery cause he should be good for atleast the next 3 or 4 years as long as Ottawa is good, conversely Atlanta\'s not guaranteed to be good, and Lehtonen\'s quickly becoming a band-aid boy.

As for the package, I\'d go for the Price plus the pick, although I\'m not entirely sure you\'ll get a high 1st rounder with him. At least with Price, if Ottawa\'s gets torn apart in 5 years or so, you have your replacement ready to go.

I would have to agree with big_dl. I think the 1st deal would be more appealing as you would be getting a very solid goalie with high potential along with a high draft pick.

Although, if you aren\'t that deep in the center position (which is highly unlikely) I would go for Kopitar outta the three.

Hey Flamesfan

I must be honest and tell you my first reaction and that was \"Why would Flamesfan do this now?\" I believe and perhaps wrongly that Fleury is over valued right now and will get you the most for your money but of course is unlikely to be the guy traded. I think Lehtonen and Emery are generally undervalued at the moment and likely Lehtonen by a larger margin than Emery.

It makes sense to me that you would wait this out - (I am guessing there is a real need for a quality starter in your league). Wait it out until perhaps the 1/4 pole of the season when guys are hungrier and they tend to forget the value of their prospects in the heat of everyday action. There is a risk that one of these guys will lose trade value but think it is a small risk and you should be able to maximize your trade value.

I also think trading for a goalie prospect isn\'t the smart money - you have goaltenders that will take you well into the future right now - you have lots of time to acquire a goalie prospect. You can ride a Getzlaf for years of his prime - I have 2 words for Kopitar (bad back).

I don\'t agree with Big_dl on which goalie to trade if you do - which is unusual because I normally agree with him on everything. Lehtonen is the most talented of the 3 and while Atlanta may not be the team I think he will be around a long time serving up good stuff. Emery is tentative in Ottawa and might be the best trade to ensure you have solid goaltending into the future. But are you ready for this - with your stable of tenders I would wait until Fleury wins 10 of his first 14 games and then bend someone over in a big way - stud skater, high pick or picks and maybe a prospect thrown in - shutouts and GAA won\'t be Fleury\'s forte on the run and gun Pens.

I likely will be accused of heresy and put in the Dobber penalty box for a few months - but with your team I would not close the door on the possibility.

Shrug! my 2 cents.

Have fun with this.

I disagree with the apparent consensus of trading Lehtonen. This guy\'s got the most raw talent of any active young goalie save perhaps Fleury, though I\'m not even sure of that. If Atlanta comes around, he\'s gold. If he ends up playing for another (better) team, he\'s goal. He has Kiprusoff-like potential in my mind and, if he realizes it, you\'ll be kicking yourself for trading him when his value was/is so low.

Edit: I also am not drinking the Emery kool aid. He is a decent-to-good goalie playing for a great team. If he were playing somewhere other than Ottowa, I don\'t think that he would be thought of nearly as highly. Not something I look for long-term in a keeper league.

Hello flamesfan \'et al\'

I would not be doing anything.

How many goaltenders do you have on your team? The 3? How many do you play? It never hurts to have depth.

I am with T.G. here. I am not a big fan of Emery either. We will see how he does now that he has the new contract. We will see how motivated he is. I think his talent level is alright, it is the other side that I wonder about. Is the money going to influence his on-ice/off-ice game?

Fleury is your best goaltender. Then Lehtonen and Emery.

My thoughts.

Is it necessarily the best goaltender that should be kept? My point being that a good goalie (Emery) on a very good team (Ottawa) can put up better numbers than a very good goalie (Lehtonen) on a decent team (Atlanta), and often will do just that. We\'re not not talking the incompetence of Robert Esche back with Philly. Furthermore, if the trade is done for Price than he gets the most talented goalie of Emery/Lehtonen/Price and by keeping Emery he\'s able to let Price develop while Emery, on a good Ottawa team continues to put up solid numbers.

Emery 58 games 33-16 2.47 91.8%
Lehtonen 68 games 34-24 2.79 91.2%

It is also necessary to consider that Ottawa\'s a much better defensive team than Atlanta is, and should be for the next few years. Especially as long as Hartley\'s coaching the Thrashers.
