Default O\'Sullivan for J. Williams?

I\'m looking to make this offer prior to our draft in a couple of weeks. I\'m building my team around LA and am dying to get my hands on O\'Sullivan. The guy I want to offer the trade to has Staal so Williams would be a good fit for him.

Do you think this offer is fair/smart?

Fair...yes Smart....very Would I accept the offer if I were him...50-50 (he certainly should if he is a top team in the league looking to win this year). First off, regarding the ranking of the two players, no one can argue they are very close and that is reiterated in Dobber\'s ratings giving Williams an 84.7 and O\'Sullivan an 82. That being said, in my opinion, Williams has a pretty established ceiling and should not produce any more than he is and certainly wont ever be surrounded with better talent than he has been so far in his short career. O\'Sullivan will be surrounded with incredible talent for a long time on a team that could rival Pittsburgh offensively very soon, but the flip side of potential is called bust. All else being equal, I always go for the player you want, and the one with the greater long term upside, and that is O\'Sullivan. I would make the offer, and if he says no, sweeten it with a fringe player that he may have a positional need for. Let us know what he says.

good trade, you might want to throw in a late draft pick or another \"throw in\" to help tip the scales for you.

Fair - yes; Smart - yes (particularly if you have a league that uses playoffs in the formula)

Will it get the job done? - it might but if you really want O\'Sullivan you might go hard with the first offer - if he balks at a straightup it might get more expensive to get him on a counteroffer - try and get him to say yes the first time.

Good advice. I was thinking off tossing in Ladd as well because he has Cam Ward so he could start building a team around Carolina. I\'m already strong at the Power Forward position with Horton and Steve Bernier already on my roster.

Do you think that\'s too much/too little?

Obviously the potential of O\'Sullivan is nice (I am glad to have him on my team), but I think at least this year and possibly next, J. Williams out points O\'Sullivan (by a fair amount this year with the additions LA has made through free agency). This MAY put your team at a disadvantage. If you really think that you need to add to your offer what about about a mid round pick. Ladd already has a full season under his belt and is one of Dobber\'s dark horses this season.

I am all for getting your guy, but being smart about it is important too. I suspect at the end of this season Ladd and O\'Sullivan have pretty similar numbers, meaning anything J. Williams gets puts you that much more in the hole.

As a side note, the idea of building around Carolina (though my favorite team) is not exactly my choice for future keeper fantasy hockey success. Outside of LA and Pitts, I don\'t want too many players from one team on my roster anyways, makes for potential complicated scheduling.
